Couldn't find any info on the species of fish that we would be looking to catch. Could you please provide additional info about the derby? Are there separate categories for each species?
Thanks!

The fish categories are, 1) Common Carp, 2)Sunfishes and Yellow Perch, 3)Top Predators ( bass, pike etc.4) Catfish ( bullhead, channel etc.) and 5) Other Fish ( white perch, freshwater drum etc. ) There are 43 species in the harbour.

Here's the deal with the prizes and awards. They will give them out 1 week after the event. Because there are stations all over the habour and this will give them time to collect and tabulate the entries. There are 6 stations, with 5 different catagories of fish and 3 age divisions of anglers. They will take the time to ensure accuracy .
There will also be draw prizes at the end of the derby for the children and youths. You will have to be present to win.

Thought I would post on this to bring it back to the top of the forum to allow others who may have missed it originally to see, since the derby is tomorrow.
Hammer. I am thinking of fishing tomorrow near Valley Inn Rd, will there be opportunities to have fish measured in that area? Do I have to pre-register? And not that it matters to me as a day of fishing is all the reward I need, but a friend is asking what the prizes are ( I don't see anything on the link you posted ) ? Why a 40 year old man would be worried about the prizes in a derby that I believe is mostly for the enjoyment and the kids is beyond me .

ya that link leaves a lot to be desired. no pre registration, no phone number to call, etc etc.
WIll still be fun to take the lil ones out for the day. looks like 3 of 6 weigh in stations are in or near pier 8.
1 Pier 8 – Hamiltonian Dock (?)
2 HWT Centre – North Side ( past where the roller rink is)/
3 Marine Police Basin (to your left when you first go into pier 8 ""i think?")
4 Bayfront Park Boat Launch (right off the parking lot where the dragon boats usually are )
5 Fishway on Waterfront Trail ( this is the carp gate under the 403 bridge before cootes paradise)
6 LaSalle Park Boat Launch (to the left as you go into the parking lot. lasalle is at the end of waterdown rd.)
other than it starts at 8 and ends at noon.. i have no other info on registration or where to go ***shrugs
