So I was thinking, every time I go out I carry my tackle box ( large and heavy ). Since I fish from shore, at times I am carrying a lot of weight a long distance.

So what I was wondering is....what about a vest! But I only see fly fishing vests, so my question is would one of these vest be good for me, a guy that uses spinning gear and bait caster. I really like the idea of having my essentials on me,and not carrying around a  tackle box .

So would one of these vests accommodate my tackle? Have any of you used or still use a vest? Suggestions please.

I do not want to carry a small box, if I have to take a box I will carry the one I have  :( . So please just help me out with vests.

Any suggestions on good brands, and I would want something breathe able.

Almost forgot I need something big in size I am 6'5 235 pounds.

thanks

Have you considered shoulder bags?

Thats what I use. I use flat tackle box and slide it into my bag when im out fishing.

You can see a guy using it in this video. Thats basically what I do, except I use a shoulder bag, and carry less stuff.

I think a vest would weight you down a lot if you are packing ton of stuff. Think about loading up your clothing with all sorts of lures, weights, hooks, and pliers. If you fish standing up, you can get worn out really quickly. With a shoulder bag, you can put it down if you need to, and if you dont want to put it down, you can always reach into it and grab whatever you need, since its right beside you. Very convenient.

Never thought about a shoulder bag or back pack, what kind of back pack.... just a regular pack? Or are there fishing specific packs? Same for shoulder bags are there fishing specific bags?   what size of back pack ( how many litres would you all suggest ).

But thanks gives me some options, but must admit am still intrigued by a vest, but will consider all options. Please keep the feed back coming. I really appreciate everyone.

I have a small throw over the shoulder bag I carry when I am wading. Holds four smaller boxes. Three in the bag and one on the bottom. Pliers are on a D ring that has a 8" rope so I don't drop it in the river. Holds what I need nicely. Weights nothing. I love it.

It is old I cant find any pictures of it online. Its 9" long by 6" wide by 5" deep.

any backpack/shoulder bag, with enough space to put tackle box into, are good.

Backpacks and shoulder bags are made to carry books and stuff, which can be way heavier than tackle boxes. They wont break or anything.

BACKpacks are less convenient because you have to take it off every time you want to access it. The good thing is that it can hold 2-3 times more stuff than a shoulder bag, and is more comfortable to carry if its heavy.

SHOULDER bags are way more convenient for lighter setups, because the bag is at your hip. It cant hold as much stuff as a backpack, and carrying heavy load will strain your shoulder more than a backpack (all the pressure is on one shoulder instead of 2).

I personally carry a small shoulder bag with me because I dont carry much. about 10 jigs, 4 lures, a spool of line, spare hooks, sinkers/split shots, pliers, scissors, and a garbage bag will fit nicely into mine. If I want to carry more stuff, I switch over to my school bag.

My 2 bags:

I use this one if I want to carry extra stuff (like food or extra tackle for a whole day of fishing)

I use this one normally. Can hold a lot more than you might think.

you can use any back pack that suites you and what you can carry just remember if your packing it full a cheaper bag is going to wearout quicker. and if you are planning on wading at all with it I suggest something not very long that sits high enough on your back were it wont get wet.as for the vest ive been eyeing one for a while but I noticed my buddy who wears one says he feels it in his neck and shoulders if he over packs it.

Good to know, about the neck and shoulder problems ( potential ). Thanks again everyone.

Keep letting me know what everyone uses, and suggestions.

Dont wade with a heavy backpack. Easy to lose balance and fall. Shoulder packs are less dangerous.

Hey guys, i was using a over the shoulder plano bag. But with my gear and water and such it was really killing my shoulder after lugging it around. Soi juss found and old bag and makes a million times difference . if im juss going out for a quick trip to somewhere i know i wont use alot of stuff i juss toss on my vest and pack acouple things. The vest would be my preferance out of the three. I got mine brand new at value village for 6 bucks. Diffently check it out.

I don't think anything beats a backpack for shore fishing, get a good one with proper straps and you're good to go

I use an Okuma fishing backpack got it for Christmas. I am really happy and have managed to carry about 25 lbs of gear. The straps are well padded and the waist buckle keeps the load feeling light. I would never go back. I tried using a normal backpack but could in no way get as organized as I am now. Once I get back I will make a post with how I have my stuff set up.

Not the exact model but my brother has a vest with a similar design - loves the thing and can stash so much stuff in it.  Uses it all year round and you can detach parts of it to slim it down if need be.
