over the last year ive been catching these in one of my fishing spots off lake ontario and i just figured out what they are.they are a pain in the ass they are invading my fishing spot....anyone else have any run ins with a rudd?http://www.invadings...ders/fish/rudd/

dude those are huge minnows, there not a problem for me ive never even seen one but, im curious if they put up a fight ?

I've never caught one of these yet, Where in Lake O did you catch?
I usually fish the Murray Canal area, Brighton bay, Quinte, and I've been told they're in there....
I find it amazing how they've evolved across the Atlantic and yet can still interbreen with our native Golden shiner.

yep theres a certain bass pond I visit occasionally and this year it is full of those things and weeds, the whole lake is covered. not cool......

Anything I catch that I know is invasive gets its guills cut and thrown on land.

no they dont put up a fight as the dont get big but there a pain cause where i go is a carp pond and they will hit everything the minute it hits the water which makes it tricky for carp fishing. ive been catching them out in niagara on the lake.

hmm its seems larger than a foot in the pic on the link, but as for getting rid of them see if theyre tasty lol

I've seen articles in other forums dealing with Rudd caught at the whirlpool on the Niagara River. Likely came from ballast water out of lake freighters.

Rudd don't get big?
I've seen 3lb Rudd cruising around in the Upper Niagara...and there have been some 4lb+ Rudd caught on the US side.
The big ones are super smart and very difficult to catch. Superior eyesight and extreme sensitivity to light and vibration.
Try to target them...before you knock them.
A big Rudd can pull just the same as a Carp of similar size.

I have landed a few in the 1-2 lb range going for carp.
This was fishing the parks of Lake Ontario from Hamilton!

The whole fishing diffrent species thing really changes the ball game alot, really add exsitment and new advantures instead of always going for the same popular game fish. I started pursuing diffrent species in my hometown such as bullheads, sauger, cisco, whitefish, goldeye, white suckers and many others and these days i get more pumped catching them then the usual walleye. Rudd does get me curious, if i have time on the trip i may try for them.
