Hey guys,

 

Does anybody know how the fishing is at the Niagara Whirlpool? I'm thinking of going there soon, and I am wondering of its worth the trip.

 

What time should I get there, and what fish can I expect to catch? Also, if anyone could share some good spots to stand and fish there that would be great!

Ok, so I guess there is a large variety of fish there so I will expect anything!

 

It would be great if someone could suggest the 'do's' and 'dont's' of fishing there, as well as any other pieces of information I might need to know before going there.

 

Also a rather recent fishing report would be very helpful!

well do catch fish and don't fall in the water lol, but seriously stay away from getting too close the water, that current will take you in a second, not worth it for a fish, but throw heavy and i mean HEAVY spoons and huge weights if fishing for carp, me and my grandpa used to do the 2hr drive every other weekend to fish there, huge trout and steel, if the waters clear use silver/chrome lures if its stained use bright neon lures. If your feeling adventurous try float fishing with again BIG FLOATS and good strongs hooks, a 2lb trout there will fight like a 8lb trout anywhere else same with any fish, let us know how it goes

I am relatively new to fishing so I dont exactly know what you mean by float fishing lol.

 

Also, if I use a reflective spoon how fast should I reel it in? And should I let it hit the bottom before reeling it in, and how do I know if it hit the bottom?

 

These are pretty dumb questions lol but I honestly dont know the answer to any of them! Any help is appreciated!!

do prepare to lose lots of tackle, that bottom is unforgiving, and some days it makes you feel like you are throwing your wallet into the water.

because of the fast current you won't be able to tell if it hits the bottom because usually the line will just stop going out, here the current will just keep it going out, I would say for 1 ounce count to 25 for 2 30 and so on and so on, for a reflective spoon use a retrieve with about 2-3 handle turns per second. As for float fishing I meant put roebags under a bobber and see what happens, best of luck

The water goes up within minutes there. Be carefull.

I was there two weeks ago, just a little further down ( near the glen ) ( great spot ) good fishing. Water rose 6-7 feet in 45 minutes . My friend did some time lapse shots of it.

 

So be careful not to get stuck some where.

ya for sure don't stay where your in a recessed cove like a ' u 'where the water runs past the opening and you cant get out, just make sure you've got at least 2 ways to get out from different directions, bow man what were you getting into, pike, bass trout ??

just found this post again, so how did ya do, might head down in the next 2 weeks for some salmon and steel

was done there yesterday morning at 6:30am, fish were jumping. Not a single hit, nobody down there was getting anything. But thats fishing!!
