Thats sad that the kid lost thier life. I think I might be going against the grain here. I am glad they close the park over night. Many resons for this however top of the list would be. Has anyone been down to PC in the daytime? The area has slowly turned into a crack town. Homeless people, dirty, not well maintained unless you are near snug harbour.

The other is all these fishermen at night, the fish have no chance of making it into the rivers. Large amounts of fishermen and women overnight in the parks. Even for a bit, I am sure the park can make a turn around.

so aside from the safety aspect of fishing in the parks at night you are saying that it is morally wrong to fish for salmon at the piers

personaly I think it is worse to fish them in the rivers after they make it past the piers it is homefree IMO

Well... first of all park does have a close hours of 2300-0700h. Nobody has shut the park down. It is still open.

As for fish not being able to make up the river? I am sure there are much greater number of fish than fishermen and most will enter the river. Surely you don't think everybody takes fish home? Right?

Also should I assume that you do not fish the river? Because if any fish make it through the many fishermen you have mentioned deserved to be left alone in the river, right?

But yeah, other than those few who walk by multiple trash can to get to their car but can not be bothered to throw their garbage.... park is still a good place.

That is what I think.

I fish the rivers, however not the credit as much any more. After seeing the pressure that river gets I do not think its fair at all.

The water front in PC has undergone a trasnformation and alot of re-development over the past couple of years. The bums and other rif raf make it an unsafe place. Who would want to be in a dark park/pier @ 12-5am alone anyways?

You guys are heartless saying you have no sympathy for a guy who died and happened to be drunk.

I will call out almost every person who said that in this thread as having done something that potentially could have killed them had they been drinking or not,.. it's not like he was driving his car while drunk...

whats worse is there is a thread about it...we all agreed it was sad but do you suggest we lower that flag to half mast for a fool that got drunk and walked near the waters edge? we have all done stupid things but that doesn't make them any less "stupider" --grow a brain and I will feel sorry for you do something like this is will say...no naming rivers.

I think is very sad that a young man lost his life. I don't know know this pier but It must be a long drop to the water, I myself nearly went in the drink friday night when I lost my balance on a rock, luckily I was only about a foot from the water. I wasn't drinking but I might as well have with the sleep deprivation I was suffering from.

Was this on the pier or the rocks? Was there early Sat. morning (4:30)lost one on my 3rd cast. Was fishing with an old buddy I grew up with, normally I'd never go there on a weekend due to the crowds. I'm surprised to hear this, because there were so many people when I was there I'm assuming if the crowds were the same, someone would help him. It was a sideshow, every time I stepped away from my rock someone tried to slide in.

Very early Sunday morning not the main pier the one next to it.

There is a 10-15 ft drop to the water not sure how deep it is there. Only way to get out is swim to shore.

it is always unfortunate when someone losses their life unexpectedly. I must say that there has been many situations that have gone much better than expected. But one thing I try to keep in  mind is how unforgiving mother nature can be, and to respect the water at all times, no matter the season.
