Okay I am new to this site. I really enjoy some of the people here (not you Remyboy) and by in large most of the regular members are pretty respectful of each other. But I can not help but notice in the past few days/week a trend of many threads escalating into a bit of a shitshow.

I know we are all passionate about fishing, and some of us Like me are here to learn as we are new to the sport but are equally passionate. We all need to work together to keep this forum and fun and friendly place where new people are encouraged to participate not sit back and lurk as they fear what may happen if/when they post something. We can all be ambassadors of this site and our respective disciplines of fishing by asking our self how we would want it to be handled if we were the OP.

Again it seems like the frequency of this is increasing just now. Maybe it is the time of year and there is more activity or maybe 1 or two threads started to run wild and people thought that was fun and continue it elsewhere. I do not know. I used to run a forum like this (not fishing) with 15k members most under 21. I get the mob mentality, I have seen it. I have also seen it ruin allot of good things too.

Just wanted to get it off my chest.

good post everyone has a different perspective and opinion on just about everything the more people there are the more differences in opinions there will be and from what I can tell this site is growing daily.

There will always be the few that think their opinions matters more then others, aside from that, most of the members here are good decent people always ready to lend a hand. I'm very proud to be a part of this community. You can't cure stupidity, so I just stay away from the negative comments and let the mods do their jobs. Let me share a quote that greatly changed the way I live and judge people, "He who sins not, let him cast the first stone."

Sorry Wasaga, I didn't see this earlier.

Your observation is spot on. We have seen this during salmon season every year on OFF, without fail. While it's something that goes with the territory, we try our best to keep OFF a friendly, helpful and welcoming place.

I should point out that it has been much worse in past years (we've lost some good members because of it), and because of that, we have implemented several measures to curtail the negativity and steer the discourse in a productive and friendly direction... You may have noticed some of the rules and sub forums (particularly in the salmon/steelhead section) and other subtle and not so obvious measures. These have been put in place over the years to keep OFF respectful, helpful and fun, especially during this time of year when things tend to get a little crazy around here.

As you noticed, we do have room for improvement. All I can say is that we are aware of it and we're working on it!

You mentioned that you used to run a forum... if you have any ideas or tips about this, please PM me.

Thanks Openfire.
Really the job you guys do is great. Please do not take my comments as directed towards you or the board. It was more an observation about a trend I saw from members, just trying to get everyone to think before they post on some of these threads.

Can't we all just get along ;-)

I have seen this as well WasagaWader. When those posts start happening, I just move on to the next topic. I guess I am not actively trying to stop the trend by avoiding it but I am not contributing to it. I knew around Salmon season it would get like this. I have seen some SHIT during Salmon season before I was a member of this forum. I knew passionate anglers would be going a little insane during this time of year.

I can step up and say I have been one to throw logs on the fire in recent past. However when people are flamming you for taking fish home that we well within my legal rights. It just becomes irritatiing saying the same thing over and over.

Then we have a ton of newbies come on the site asking for everything from access points to bait, technique they even wanna know what color underwear to wear. As much as I agree with the statement to welcome newbies, they have to help themselves before posting "are the salmon here"

I realized that alot of what I was getting worked up over was stupid. I am not going to change my lifestyle or fishing habits based on the Fact that Remyboy can fly fish with SIMMS and Orvis all over him. Its something at the end of the day we all need to laugh about. I am slowly learning to look for the hidden messeges in different posts not just the surface messeges.

In conclusion I have learned that if we all fished with mustard soaked sponge, drizzled slowly with warm maple syrup and HHHHHHhhhhHHHHhEEEEeeeeRrRRRRRrrrrROOooooo Drift, this would solve all issue on OFF.

I agree iJay, members should not come in looking for the free quick advice/answer. They should be willing to contribute to the community and it's growth and learn the knowledge they are seeking not expect it to be spoon fed to them. With that said, each time a new member asks "Are the salmon here" it should not develop into 7 page diatribe on forum rules and etiquette. Lets save the Diatribe for Remyboy's Simms/loop addiction problems

spot on ww Just because people ask about something does not mean that you have to answer Like the cops say before they arrest someone you have the right to remain silent... ok maybe a bad example but I think u guys get my drift(lol)
as for the newbies looking for salmon info I see some people who mostly show up on here during salmon season asking questions that if they took the time to read through some posts they would answer these questions as there are some great threads on here with most of the info u need to know. I would just like to say thank you to those who took the time to give tips on pier fishing for salmon as I took the time to read them.
