Im kind of new to salmon fishing in and around the GTA, so please bear with me. Im planning on making a trip down to some of the west tribs next week to do some salmon fishing, i've heard the fish can get very large and be hard to land using certain rods. So i'm wondering what length and action rod i should use?, also what lb test line should i use and if a leader is necessary. Thanks.

I was successful in the past using spinning reel + 11' rod with 10bls line. No leader.
I highly recommend pins for rivers though, they are perfect for them. Can't comment on fly, haven't done it yet.... Soon though...soon....

I'm using a centerpin + 13' rod with 10bls main line, 8lbs leader for salmon and 4-6lbs for trout.

depends on how many people are on the river... both the pin (15'/13' 6") or the fly (11' 8.wt switch/ 9' 7.wt ) for me... again depends on the situation, don't like being labeled into a box... diversify... diversify... diversify...

Personally I use a 14' raven IM8 for salmon with a centerpin. Just has the right amount of power to turn those fish. I use 10-12lb line with 8-10lb leader.

the walnut reel seat or the sliding ring series?

the walnut reel seat or the sliding ring series?
Sliding rings, I don't like the walnut seat one cause the placement of the reel would be too high up on the handle for me. I like my reel more towards the middle of the handle
I use this rod specifically for salmon now and a backup stick for big water.

heavy action ugly stick seems to be the norm. however id recommend the fenwick hmx series 9'6 great starter rod and is less than 100 bucks. in order to float fish properly you need to have your rod tip up and heavy long rods like shimano convergance and okuma are to heavy to hold properly all day long
