I got a Shimano Shimano Stradic CI4F for 100.00 brand new that goes for 200.00 on Bass Pro reel and some Power Pro 30lb line from a seller on ebay.

My mistake however was buying it from a seller that had the stuff listed under a stupid program called ebay GSP stands for Global shipping program, what's supposed to be so great about the program is I pay for the items shipping and even the import duties all at once lucky me.

The seller olny had the option up for standard shipping and no fast services and I'm alright with that, but here's where everything get's really stupid,so I get my tracking number from the seller threw a message on ebay and when I try for days to track the thing I get a message from USPS that it does not have any records of this tracking number so I contact the seller many times asking for a working tracking number and he keep's sending me the same one saying it's working for him.

So I contact ebay and they tell me it's working for them to and I said why won't it work for me when I go to the USPS website and track it Oh no Sir your not supposed to do that with this tracking number the tracking number is in your ebay  Purchase History under the item and this tracking number will not work on the USPS website although that's who the carrier is so I said well it's not showing me the tracking in my ebay under the item, for some reason it never showed up in my ebay purchase History .

Then the phone Rep from ebay get's it to show up for me in my purchase History and I say to the Rep from what I can see when I click on the tracking number you just gave me my items just went 1100 Miles in the opposite direction from me(when I figured it out it was 1285 Miles)so I ask the phone Rep what's up with that and he say's it's eBay's policy for the item to go to the ebay GSP center closest to the seller to have the customs forms attached to box so customs will see that the import duties have been collected,I do mind waiting for stuff to come in the mail but I was really starting to loose it on the phone with the ebay Rep when he tells me why I think it's a stupid system,so I told him well for starters your telling me that it's faster this way to have my item's go 1100 Miles in the opposite direction from me that took 4 days to get to a ebay GSP center 2 more days for you idiots to attach a peace of paper on it then another 4 days of going in the right direction just to get the item's back to where they started from and on their way to me why not ship it to a GSP center on the way to me rather then away from.

From what ebay tells me the tracking number used in a ebay GSP shipment can olny be tracked threw ebay, and the really stupid part is the tracking number that's supposed to go below your item in your purchase history takes you to the USPS website with all the info right there talk about stupid,it's to bad the seller knew I needed to track the item this way and never told me this even after I told him I have tried many times copying and pasting the number in the USPS website he sent me in an ebay private message.

You ever buy anything with the ebay GSP Program, even PayPal is saying it's the stupidest thing ebay has ever done as they are dealing with a lot of complaint's.

This first and last time I'm buying from a seller that's using the ebay GSP Program,I purchased stuff off ebay all the time as well and most times it's been great except for this time.

I think I'd rather deal with paying the Customs fees when my items hit my door, plus a lot of the times they just slide right on threw customs where I should have had to pay Duties and did not end up paying any.

I avoid the GSP as much as possible as well especially on smaller purchases.  I find that 90% of my purcashes arrive at my door with no duty or taxes assessed.  So to Voluntarily pay them up front makes no sense to me.  I would rather spin the wheel of luck and see if I have to pay or not.

i constantly buy and sell on ebay. i avoid using ebays gsp.
generally i find it alot faster just shipping it straight to your door and pay the delivery person then and there.

always have stuff shipped USPS first class mail (small packs)  or priority mail.   usually under $25 you dont need to pay duty.

however.. canada customs is a hit or miss. something itll just slide across the border without duty under $40.
sometimes they will inspect your pack by hand and slap on a brokerage fee (even though they should not do that with the USPS/CP agreement).

they dont have to even open it. as long as they just pick up by hand and touch the pack... you need to pay their brokerage fee+duty

AVOID ups ground or fedex ground.. they always have brokerage fees which kill you.  the $30-40 fee,,, you could have just used the $30-40 for the ups/fedex expedited/express shipping 1 day instead for the same price as the brokerage fee is already included in the price.

I remember the first time I got something from a company in the States and it was shipped UPS Ground and I got them to reverse there 25 dollar fee.

Once the item has actually been dropped off or picked up you should start seeing your tracking information.  A lot of ebay vendors print a USPS shipping label with tracking numbers, but they take their sweet time taking the package to the post office.

Lol I used to be big into ebay.  Now I cringe every time I hear the name!

Don't worry about buying from ebay just make sure to look at the listing and where shipping part is and do not buy it if it's listed under the ebay GSP Program,if you buy it from a none GSP listing they throw it in the mail and it goes right to you, also ask the shipper to mark your item 20 bucks or less that way there's no import duties on it and most will do that for you.

dont always do that.  if its get lost or something the seller technically doesnt have to even refund you the whole amount or replace it.

especially if you request to insure the item, you can only insure what they declare as the value.

so only do that if you can accept that risk even if its only a slim slim chance for a lost pack.

if its an expensive item,, i just ask them to lower the amount to something more reasonably.  like a $200 item down to like $100 . but not to $20

paying like $13 tax is still better then $26.

Not true I have had a few thing's that never showed up and PayPal got me the full amount I paid,I know a lot of people buy into whatever the seller has for terms up on the listing and a lot of the terms they make up themselves and are BS and even if you buy the item under their terms their terms are void if they do not agree with what eBay's and PayPals terms are.

For example I got a 200.00 camera from ebay and the seller just sent it out USPS with no tracking number and it did not arrive within the 30 days or whatever it is that ebay gives the seller to make sure your item has arrived, the seller put in the listing they are responsible if it does not arrive and will not refund any money,I contacted PayPal told them they sent it out regular mail and said that service had no option to ad a tracking number and PayPal told me I would have to wait 8 more days before I could file a claim and I got my money back because it's like PayPal said the seller is responsible for making sure you get your item.

I know a lot of people abused the system when USPS did not offer a tracking number or any way to confirm delivery and once the 30 days were up would file a claim and win eveytime because the seller could not prove that the item was delivered.

I know this to be true I worked with a guy and he always bragged about how he just got something for nothing from ebay and he would wait for really good deals and make sure the shipping was going threw Regular Mail from the states, thankfully now they give at least a delivery confirmation number to stop jerks likes him,he got away with it 7 times in a row before PayPal banned his account.

Just clear a few thing's up I have dealt with PayPal in the past and alway's gotten my money.

I know a lot people think once they have your money your screwed if your item does not show up.

I have gone threw this 4 times in all the years I have been buying from ebay I'm guessing it's been 8 years.

Olny twice I did not get the shipping refunded, also be aware that it's PayPal's Mission statement according to them that seller is response for making sure you get your item it does not matter whether you asked for extra insurance or not and the item must be as described and not damaged,if they claim like the one guy did to me saying he lost the tracking number but he tracked it 10 days after being sent out to me and he claimed it was delivered he still needed to provide a tracking number to prove to PayPal it had been delivered.

I think the biggest thing to remember when buying from ebay is buy from people that have a high Rep and good reviews and your going to be fine in most case's,I just ordered some MegaStrike after reading a post from alwayscatching on this site and asking him a few thing's about it and all I can say is the seller of the MegaStrike was really good to deal with like most seller are on ebay.

when it comes to ebay only ever buy from sellers with 98 or above percent positive feedback, and over a 100 reviews. reason i say this is because to people whos business relies on ebay cannot afford negative feedback. even those chinese sellers are perfectly fine to order from. one time i bought something worth about 20 bucks and it was a piece of junk and i left negative feed back, about 2 hours later i get a email from the seller saying he has pay palled a refund+shipping cost and hopes for me to change my feedback! bottom line, you can save alot of money on ebay but have to be very  cautious at all times
