Judging by the responses so far, this obviously won't make a lot of money, which leads me to question if this really about supporting O.f.f or just making some small club.

5$ a month will not hurt anyone. Think of how much gas money you can save by getting information that the river you were planing going is blown, because one of the members lives 2 min away and does not mind sharing with the community.

Best to sort what the mission here is...
made this comment before.
Mods are letting stuff slide and the toxic climate here is palpable...
Openfire has put heart and soul into this site
You have all been poor custodians of Openfire's legacy...
For shame

people say they wont but they will-attrition will be minimal--also forget the site cost---would it not be nice to make a little money from this thing that EVERYONE lives on most of their day? I for one do nothing for free, if there is no money in it --and it costs me to boot I am out. if your not of the same mind than you have less self worth than you originally assumed..people are funny man--they cant afford a site that they dwell on however they can waste their money on everything under the sun...meanwhile the openfires of the world need to volunteer their time for nothing in return except new fishing buddies...that's so funny that when I laugh its the kind where no noise comes out...if you had to pay a pro for the stuff you learned on here without even realizing it cause your drooling over everything else this site offers most would already be chapter 11 years ago...
so are you going to start charging membership fees on your site?? or are you just doing that for free??

My Opinion .... I'm not convince just enough yet that this forum should be a paid membership yet? There are lots of work to do ... too early. On my case, I will not benefit that much, as I learned through trials and errors with my spinning rod but my goal is to help Noob. I have my basics but I'm not the best out there .... I will never be, as I make mistakes too .... you can be If you like to, doesn't matter . The basics of Fishing is Fly Fishing ... I'm aware of that and this forum is mostly fly fishermen here. I will learn fly fishing self taught like I did with spinning rod by taking out variables and adding variables .... It can be done.....no one taught me how to fish anyways. If this forum likes to go further more ....paid membership ..... they should add more fishing related other than fly fishing. The cost of running this forum is going up... true.....more pics, videos, more members, traffic is there more than it can handle .... slower responses .... means more upgrades. As a new member, I consider this forum as one of the lakes I am fishing. My 1st procedure is to test the water that I'm fishing at, by casting lures and I got a bad reaction easily. I don't take that personally, like I said, this is what I do when I'm fishing on any Lakes ... TEST THE WATER. New members should be treated with respect equally and old members should show good examples as well. I Tip my hat to one member named Sparta .... that shows a good example to others. This is just one of the weaknesses of this forum respect, another one is slow response, fish species of interest, lost and found, fly fishing instructor names and numbers, donation box, safety tips on fishing, predators to watch out for, hotline number, weather updates and a lot more. This forum needs more researching to do, It's not competitive enough yet ...... but It's fun I have to admit that and addictive.

if you need to know we are taking a different approach--one where the love of flyfishing and it paying for itself at minimum are paramount--respectfully..are you gonna pay for your fly fishing club membership next year? (which costs about 25 bucks a month) cause if so it would stand to reason that you pay for the "use" of a site that you frequent 10 times more than the closed section of the river..not to mention everyones financial situation is different ...but believe me I wont lose money on that site. if I do it will be gone faster than the titanic...

paying to have access to grounds that very few people have access to, if i can afford it at the time of renewal absolutely. paying to have access to information absolutely not. i will NEVER pay for an internet chat room, i already pay a company to have access to the internet, im not going to pay to have access to a site that can be payed for by other means, ie advertising and sponsers

your entitled to that--if the site or sites as a whole go membership way..because advertising does not even come close to paying enough--fact--then people that don't want to pay can have 4 hours a day extra time on their hands to do nothing..or walk up and down the private waters with a headlamp on lol

Again people. You don't have to pay to be here. You can pay to support the site become an advanced member and get a few perks and a private members area. Thats it thats all. If you don't pay you will be the same as you are now without any perks or a private members area thats it. So lets stop bitching and move on.

so you want to segregate the members, and create a little club? and what perks are you talking?> information about rivers and creeks that is readily available by other means? did your kitchener/waterloo club idea fail so this was your backup idea?
why separate the COMMUNITY? why create this dividing line? and don't say there won't be a line, cause there most certainly will be
