I am trying to decide between a Rapala Classic Drifter or Okuma Sheffield. I can essentially get both reels brand new for around $175. I don't have experience using either of the two reels so if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it

Thanks guys!

Get the okuma, from what I've seen and from my friends experience the rapala ones aren't the best quality. Okuma will be good.

You already know my opinion. Been fishing with the drifter since start of steel season. Never a problem, landed tons of fish on it.

CJR would be a better expert though

I really don't know much about float reels or fishing but I do know Okuma has some great products from personal use. Rods and their current line of Baitcasters are great. Got the chance to fish a couple times with some of their gear.

Arrrrrrr don't think so I'm the buddy he's referring to besides the colour does not matter as long as the reel holds fish. Hehehe

Check out the classifieds on that other site. I picked up a mint Islander (spooled with backing & line) for $250 a while back. There was a new in the box  Rapala for $120 not long ago. There are always deals to be had. Good Luck!

hey trini, why do you prefer the Okuma to the KP?

KP is alot heavier and I really don't like the placement of the spool lock. Both spins just as smooth so why not. Personal preference i guess. Now I use the KP on bigger rivers as its easier to reel in faster because of the bigger spool.
