Hey OFF,

I must've spent over $1000 of fishing equipment the last few months from buying new rods, reels, lures and such.

I wanted to create a thread to see what type of items you guys purchase.

Here are a few thinks I picked up today...

new lures

Recently bought a shimano symetre and a st. Croix triumph to replace my old smallmouth rod. Looking to buy simms freestones to replace my crappy CT waders. I'm with instapump on this one, river fishing can be expensive :D

I need to restock on some float fishing stuff for the fall. I somehow lost all of my Drennan floats after trout opener.

Once we get our Simms, it'll be no looking back.

The next time I hit up a store, i'll be picking up stronger #10 salmon hooks.

My #10 gamakatsu hooks bent.

Can you guys recommend some stronger salmon hooks?

Someone mentioned to try Mustad

Better than gamakatsu?  Thats all I use and haven't had any problems.  They are sharp as hell.

Ya gamakatsus are awesome hooks I just find them really pricey, that's why I usually buy vmc and they're are other smaller private companies that make good hooks for the money as well

To all you guys river fishing does not Ned to be expensive !! If your setting up right all you should loose to hang ups is 3-4' of leader a bead and a hook at most !! (Assuming your pinning) Lure fishing is expensive 2 live targets costs more than my leader and hooks from September to April .. Fly fishing can be expensive too if your buying flies at 5$ for an intruder

bought some new main line suffix elite 10 lb clear  and splitshots gotta have splitshots,  I haven't tried this line yet but was quite impressed with it while spooling up my spinning reels very consistent on quality no line twist and easy to handle so far lets see how long it lasts and if it doesn't get all kinky.   And the price wasn't to bad either $9 for 330 yds.

What # test line are you using?

It sounds like you are putting too much pressure while fighting the fish...

If you put enough pressure on any size 10 hook, it will straighten out...

yep personally I don't use name brand hooks and ive never really straightened out a hook on a fish its all about having ur drag set properly that way u don't really need heavy line and also ur hook won't receive as much pressure by letting the fish run a bit.

haha guys don't talk about this! I am afraid to add up everything I have got for pinning, flying, ice fishing downrigging ect in the last while

You are correct that you should only loose your leader but top of the line floro and premo hooks can add up too

I honestly used to only use TroKar hooks, but I realized now that I am working part time and in school, spending 20 bucks on hooks is not the smartest thing aha. I mean they really are the sharpest hooks and I have had way more success as this season as proven for me, but the gamakatsu hooks OR Owner hooks are good. Even the big pack of BPS hooks are great for fishing for fun.
