I was fishing with a buddy and he was using this set up and he was catching fish left and right no matter what time or place, and it was on multiple occasions.
I asked him to set me up with one of those rigs and then I began catching them. It wasn't until after that I started wondering about why this rig was so successful, is this a flossing rig?

most definately, the line will flow accross the water like a wall flowing downstram itll put that line into any fishes mouth on the first cast guarantee

NO!!! That's finessing! :lol:
My only issue with it is that it doesn't have enough lead... make it 8 ft and you'll get more fish.

the thing with flossing is that not everyone who uses one is even aware of whats causing them to catch fish. Some people thinks that its the bead, bait, fly, or whatever you have at the end is legitimately being chowed by the fish, even if in reality its being "flossed". You cant really blame people, especially beginners, for not knowing whats happening. If they are flossing, knowingly or not, and no one tells them, they will believe that they are catching fish in a legal way, and its working superb for them.
Its different from snagging with a weighted treble, which you have to be aware of what you are doing to be doing it correctly.

If that's flossing I'm a pro at flossing then cause that's my steelhead rig pretty much right there and they hammer it. lost two steel this weekend. one jumped 3-4 feet n spit hook other took me into log jam and got me snagged.

everything is identical to my rig ive been using since starting using the pin. Except that I dont have any wieghts on the leader line. My leader is about 3 -4 feet with just bead and hook.
Flossing is a stupid debate. Who cares, if your casting into a dark green pool, where you cant see anything anyways, flossing will not help you much anyways.

it's only flossing if you have 50+ fish in the pool you're putting it. now try that in a pool with one fish....if you catch the fish, then it's the bead.

I don't agree. If you have that kind of rig and sight fish. 1 fish or 900 in a pool flossing can be executed.

What's your setup if that's a flossing rig to you? How else do you fish a bead other then that way? Im talking about steelhead not salmon by the way.

lol you can pretty much call every float rig a floss rig. Unless you are drifting a jig (or anything with enough weight to stay right below the float all the time) just inches below your float, I think you can floss it.

Flossing implies having the line travel down the body of water in a horizontal manner.
Float fishing the line is in a verticle position often times pulling the bait along thru the water.
Salmon or trout, same deal. Flossing is flossing.
