Hey all,

I am considering myself a born-again angler girl, living in TO. Born-again meaning I used to fish a lot as a little kid with my Dad, who is a pretty avid angler, but due to an unfortunate "incident", I haven't really touched a fishing rod in close to 20 years. Well I'm not sure if it was nostalgia, but this spring I got the itch, grabbed a rod and headed to High Park not knowing what to expect. After several casts with nothing, I shuffled spots and WHAM! Caught a decent sized smallie which put up an adorable fight. Needless to say, I was hooked again(pardon the rather bromidic pun), and it has become a bit of an obsession over the summer. Some of the places we fished this summer: Long Point, Hastings, Couchiching, Port Severn, Orangeville, Dalrymple, Oastler Lake, west trib, north trib, and various spots in Toronto.

When camping at Oastler Lake in September I caught my first pike! Sadly, when taking it out of the water, the pike freaked, I freaked (a little), line went snap, fish went kerTHUNK and off it shot before we could get a pic. I am determined to catch another pike this fall...that was exhilarating! I'm stoked to have found this forum and look forward to learning a lot more!

Cheers!

Welcome to OFF!

I also fished Oastler in the summer and let's just say there is now a pike swimming aroung in that lake with my favorite x rap embedded in his face!! (I didn't bother using a leader as I was fishing for smallmouth) To make things worse I cannot find that colour x rap ANYWHERE!!! Overall a nice lake and decsent camping after you get used to the train. ;)

Yeah Kleiner same thing happened to me. Wasn't really expecting a Pike, but it was the first time casting a red/white spoon. Hit on the first cast, and it was an awkward crappy one through some trees. I thought I had a snag at first but then when my line started peeling I panicked a little. Biggest fish I've caught. I felt really bad about the lure in it's lip. Hope it survives :( I was hoping to catch the same one but I bet it was hiding after that conundrum. Oastler was really nice. Don't mind the train cuz I grew up around RR trax. Campsite on the water, barely anyone there....sweet.

Yes usernamehere I saw that a couple months ago. Thousands of panfish and perch washing up. Some kind of water turnover after the big rainstorm apparently....(? Could be wrong). I was there last Tues and caught nothing. Saw a lot of sunfish though. A lot.

Welcome gnat... Lots of big pike up Thunder Bay way & they are under utilized in many lakes like: Lake Superior, Lake Nipigon, Caribou Lake & Lac Des Isles by North American Palladium Mine.

Welcome to OFF gnat. that pic, where can i catch those? lol. Anyways you have come to the right forum. Lot's of stuff you can learn. And for catching pike, now is the time to really hammer them. They're out in the shallows. If you notice a decline in bass action...that's because the pikes are in. Looking forward to learn from your fishing experiences.
