Can someone recommend the proper or an effective way to bottom bounce for steelhead?  I've never done it before.  I would like to try this tomorrow at a Huron Trib , river levels are quite high from what I can tell.

Would it also be best to just use a spinning rod/reel for this or can I use my float/pin?

Thanks!

water levels arent bad the device that measures the water is just glitching.  just bring some 6mm beads, size 14 flies and 2 gram floats and youll slay the steel!!!

If your using the wateroffice looking at the trib on the north shore it's not glitching !! Look at all the other measuring locations on the river they all say the same thing and it's still on the rise

A really good swivel to invest in is the T-turn by thundermist lures. You order them online, really good for bottom bouncing for lots of species of fish. IMO, the best sinker to use is a slinky, or you can make your own by wrapping some split shots in siran wrap. You just want to be tapping the bottom with the sinker.

You cast out and let drift slowly, if you're not hitting bottom then not enough wait, if you keep getting stuck, then you have to much weight.

Rigging is easy just need 3 way swivel or regular barrel swivel with line going to sinker and another going to bait. When I'm bottom bouncing Roe I usually have a shorter lead to the hook, than that of the sinker. Hope this helps a bit, some things are hard to explain properly in text.

x2 on the T-Turns by Thundermist!  Prevent mega messes... you will get caught up a lot at first but keep tweeking it until you find the magic combo for the area you are fishing - good luck :)

As already mentioned use a quality swivel. I leave the tag end of my mainline untrimmed and put split shots on this tag end tie on your swivel and be sure to use an extremely sharp hook. As already mentioned make sure your ticking bottom occasionally and wait for the hit. If you haven't tried this it takes awhile to get it right. The slinkies mentioned are a great alternative.

Cast slightly upstream ditto on the slinkies after a little while you should be able to distinguish when your bouncing on the bottom

Use whatever you feel more comfortable with. I personally use a spinning reel and shorter 9'6" rod for bottom bouncing, but my buddy uses his centerpin for everything.
