Just a note to anyone looking to buy fishing rods. Do not buy from Backwoods Premium Rods!!!

There was a post about this guy back in 2011 and he somehow is still in business.

From my own personal experience dealing with this windbag, he's an outright Fraud. He self proclaims himself as a Master Rod Designer with many other titles, but has no credentials for any of them and he has an elaborate web site. This is all BS so he can get your money for his own profit.

He is not a rod builder, but has some poor fellows building rods for him at minimum wage. They ARE NOT custom rods, just fancy components that he has chosen from a catalogue and had them assembled by others. Quite often, the rods are assembled with used components from customers returned broken rods.

He makes fraudulent business deals with honest individuals that he does not live up to and he always has some excuse to give you.

He resides somewhere in Wasaga Beach Ontario, so please pass the message along so you and your buddies don't get burned.

Perhaps we can put this blowhart out of business once and for all.

Respectfully,

Thanks for the heads up

Just want poster's to be aware, I have seen this kind of thing end in Slander charges on a couple of Automotive forums. People have spoke about "hear says" which is not speaking in first person. If this damages or hinders business. The law can become involved. I am sure not at this post, but for the larger losses.

I don't know how to make of this post...you are a certified professional rod builder and i'm guessing the guy in question here looks like competition. And that is what's making me skeptical about your post. But thank you for your $0.02.

I appreciate posts like this, but i think I'd gain more from it if there were specific things to look for that tell a buyer what to look out for. Essentially a custom product could very easily be someone ordering different products from a catalogue and assembling them together. There's varying degrees of "custom" so it all depends on what you're looking for.

Either way, I'll second iJay's comment. Careful with your words as it can bite you in the ass sometimes.

Every custom rod is buying parts from a catalog and assembling them in a way that you can't get on a factory rod !
How do you get credentials for master rod builder ??
Is there a school for rod building that I've never herd of??
If it's quality parts and quality work I wouldn't complain ..
Of he has someone working for him to increase production then he's a smart business man !!
I see a jealous competitor trying to steer business away from him until we se some proof of his fraudulent work

What David Parker is saying probably has merit. This Backwoods guy posted on the forum a long time ago and never responded to peoples questions about his business practices. He basically made three or four posts on the forum and they were all just spam to push his product.

My post was not intended to offend anyone, just make them aware of a bad situation and I do not consider it slander, as I am the holder of this person's fraudlent cheque and paperwork. I was also contacted by other fellows who are now in the same position as I am. I am not in business to see fellow anglers get burned.
Unfortuantely, it seems that some may be offended by this post, but I am not aware of how to delete it, so will the Moderator please do so for me.

Thankyou.

You'd be foolish to buy anything Backwoods or anything related to Backwoods!

Do your homework folks!

Sorry to see you got burned (like many others) Dave.

Cheers

I don't know either parties, but running a business for profit, having employees, and reusing components (recycling is a good thing imo) are not bad things.

Best to let your own work and goodwill speak for itself, without the need of bringing others down.

If you have been issued a fraudulent cheque, deal with the bank and/or legal authorities. IMO this thread should be deleted.

There are procedures you can do regarding consumer complaints, you can write him a letter with a deadline to respond. I know a furniture store somewhere in Mississauga

owner is Asian, family friend bought furniture there, furniture hardware were damaged, impossible to assemble. WE were asking for replacement but he refused, the store owner

gave our friend hard time, we decided to write a letter to the store owner and the next move will be, to file a complaint to the Ministry but before the deadline, the store owner

called our friend and ask him to pick up the new furniture.
