hey guys, have any of you tried ice fishing with a center-pin, id love to try it this year, but i was wondering about the line? i have hi-vis orange 10 lb main line, i could put on an 8 lb leader for lakers and a 4 lb leader for whities, would they still be able to see the main line? edit: this season, lol

I've tried this in years past. Its great and different all in one. it defiantly helps with line twist in deeper water. i noticed that the retrieval rate isn't as fast as a spinning reel i find. I lost a few lakers using my drifter, but not sure if it had anything to do with the line pick up speed.

Why use the hi-vis line? Just spool the whole pin with 10lb low vis line and your good to go. I'm busting out the sheffield and the stubula for the ice this year. Rocking a new casting ice rig and i'm picking up the new sonar today! Man I can't wait lol.

For ice pinning do you guys just use your float rods or ice fishing rods?
a 13' float rod in an ice tent. just imagine lol

Tried it for lakers an didn't like fumbling around palming the reel after sitting on the ice... Even in a hut it wasn't the thrill I was looking for lol.
It can be done though for sure.

Here's a post from Licensetopin from last year. It just a cool pic of him fighting a laker on a Pin through the ice.

Other than line twist or just playing around I can't see any advantages of using a pin for ice fishing. As a matter of fact for running and gunning and fishing in the cold it would be a straight up Pain...

If you ever want to see a fully grown man go through a 8 inch hole, just wait until you put your reel down and a fish pulls it through the hole.

ha, i wouldnt leave a pin on the ice , you kidding me? ive had my bait caster go through the ice and it wasnt pretty, i almost dived into that 12 inch hole, lol, luckily, i got a nice whitie after with the line from the bait caster attached, to it, thank god. now i know to leave all my rods in holders, ive had a laker pull a buds rod down the hole, it wasnt an expensive setup but still, he didnt make it by like 2 seconds, lol, i would like to try the pin on the ice, but you wont see me leaving it unattended for a second, too much money is on the line.
