Then why are you weighing in on scents? Fly fishermen rely on a fishes sight and never experiment with taste or smell. Fly fishing isn't even so much about catching fish and more about the art so I respectfuly say your opinion is invalid

 

if you want to swing that way, I could say using scents does not make you a real fisherman, because a real fisherman would be able to use his skills in the art of bait presentation to induce a strike

 

just because im a fly fisherman for trout does that mean i have always been a fly fisherman? my opinions don't matter on a subject?  i fish with lures all the time, just for other species, and can say i have caught more fish in one summer(600+) using a white 3" mr twister with either a red or yellow/orange 1/4 onze jighead, so please, do not disrespect my opinion on using scents.

When the fish are hungry and aggressive scent doesn't make a different at all!!! but when they are off and you need that something extra to entice them scent makes all the difference in the world

steelhead are trout, lets get that straight, no i have not always been a fly fisher for steel/trout, i started out as a bag and worm slinger, had the needle to pump my worms all the roe tying jigs, different colours of mesh, and still switch over to a float rod/reel to change things up, so for you to say that my opinion on whether or not scents work is invalid is disrepectful
