Pretty new baitcaster user here, and im having trouble with braid digging into the spool.

 

Iv tried a few "remedy" iv found online, but none of them seem to work. Iv tried:

 

spool the braid on very tight: I dont know how tight its suppose to be, but I cant get it tight enough.

loose drag: doesnt work that well.

loose spool tension: messes up my casts sometimes.

fill 1/2 spool with mono then rest with braid: sorta work, but still digs in if I set hook too hard.

combination of above: nope

 

I see people using pure braid, and they can set hooks pretty hard without ever having a line digging into the spool. Some of them told me to get a reel with a fast levelwind so the line lie in a more criss-cross pattern, but thats not an option for me (I cant even find one).

 

Can some of you pro braid users out there share some tips/tricks? its really bothering me.

 

I was using powerpro 8 (15lb), but it kept breaking off for some reason, and after losing my 3rd lure, I switched to sunline sx1 (16lb). Have problems with both lines. Reel is a abu silvermax, rod is basspro graphite rod (6ft 6, MH, fast tip).

If u want to be using braid on a baitcaster i would reccomend using 30 or 40 pound braid minimum. Right now im using 40 pound on my baitcaster and it doesnt dog in

go with hamilton angler, i use min 50lb test on my caster it helps prevent digging, you could always use mono but who wants to do that ? when you spool it on tight it has to be TIGHT like it feels like the line is a rock you should be able to stab it and it shouldn't give but thats hard to get, i usually spool mine up  during salmon season at a mouth of a river, i catch one let it run and yank it in and the line is on quite tight lol but that isn't always an option. if you ask me ask someone to hold the spool as tight as they can and lock the drag on your reel and reel the line in. it should help

Also suggest 40-50 pound braid. The mono backing you did is a good idea, not many people do this.

I use 20lb braided on my caster and never have had an issue, absolutely love it

I assume you would tie one end of the line to them walk the line out and reel it back in with as much pressure as possible.

use a pencil on braid spool....poke the center ...hold with your toe left and right.....this worx with me all the time.

To get optimal tension when putting line on your winch hold the line down against the rod in front of the winch when you are reeling it on. The more tension you want, the harder you grip.... the spool can be wherever, on yor frigde, on your couch, doesn't matter...if you have a friend or girlfriend willing to hold it thats a bonus but you don't need a second person.

I guess im gonig to put the 16lb braid onto my spinning reel and go buy some 25lb braid.

great to know you do the same thing ..... it's more than respooling to me ..... it tells me about the hand feet and mind coordination ..... it will tell you if there something wrong with your feet or hand.
