So I visited LeBaron today, and had a look around the store. Pretty nice variety of stuff and good price.

The store employees seem a little.......tight-lipped, for a lack of better word. This is fine, as I dont really need them to help me with anything.

What I have concern with is the return policy. Had this one guy (customer) in the fishing section with me, telling me that their return policy sucks. Pretty much anything you buy can be more or less can be thought as final sale. This got me pretty concerned. Got home and read some online reviews and theres some bad comments floating around.

They do have several fishing rods that I want (+1 reel), and I am thinking of buying from them. But before I go and spend $400, thought id ask other's experience in dealing with this store.

Never been there, but don't really have a desire to go. Their reviews online are brutal and I'm happy with BPS.

if the rod is catalogued, get a price match from somewhere else. basspro is way over priced. even though not catalogued, their raven selection is literally 175% more than any raven dealer in toronto. if you need help, the woodbine lebaron is not the best place, they always give you halfass answer and EVERYTHING IS GOOD according to that short kid with the goatie. there was an older lady, like mid fifties that didn't even know where hooks were and tried to help. their prices are pretty good though on certain brands. not a big fan of going there for steelhead gear, unless it is nets or blackbird stuff. it lacks variety of hooks, floats, rods, reels. so on. try to get a price match from sail or basspro if they have the price catalogued.

call them and ask, there is internet, if they see a price, they would probably match it. so say x store is selling x rod, they look it up and match it.

also not sure if their return policy is any better.

ah ok.

Im worried that if I buy a rod from lebaron, and it breaks, would I be able to get them to replace/refund me? I know certain stores can be a real hassle to get replacements.

no, most the time you usually pay the shipping and they ship off for you, or you ship it yourself to the manufacturer, that is if your rod has warranty, every rod manufacturer is different. extremely rare a store in toronto would take a loss and just let you exchange a rod without any payment from you. plus the fact some times they stop making a type of rod and some time they send you a rod tip that is different. basspro is same, sail is same, most bigger stores are the same. you pay the shipping.

Had my fair share of attitude at Le Baron's in Mississauga from staff as well. Usually if I go I just grab what I need and go, not sure on their return policy, my new hangout is Angling Specialties smaller but very polite and helpful. Return policy is pretty important in my opinion, look around before you spend your hard earned dough.

angling specialty is probably the most expensive store in all of GTA, everything they sell is at least 1.5 times more expensive that any other store.  i shopped there few times in past 17 years. that is honestly wasting hard earned cash for same items you could pickup anywhere else for a lot cheaper.

they do have few things that are more rare to find, that you wont find anywhere else, at least when it comes to floatfishing.

basspro does price match? how does that work?

yes, I can say from experience that bps does price match. They don't even need something in writing like a flyer or catalog.
I went to Sail looking for a Navionics chip last winter and the guy behind the counter knew nothing and gave me so much attitude that I left and went to bps. Problem was when I got there the chip at bps was about $50 more. I explained what had happened at Sail and they simply called Sail to verify the price and then matched it for me. Additionally the guy at bps could actually answer every question I had plus offer some more info. That was the one and only time I have ever been to Sail.

on a different note, even though the staff are iffy, i would rather give my money to le baron, if their business thrives, they can keep the prices low. also as i said, but not really clearly, if a store is official dealer of X brand, they HAVE TO take care of the warranty. exact reason why they don't carry y brand.

Always had a good experience at lebarons, If you talk to them about fishing they will give it back. I picked up a pair of bare adams there on boxing day for 265 (reg price) when they are advertised for 325 on the bare site. There is an older asian gentleman there that is usually in the "fly fishing" section of the center of the store.. Me and him had a 30 minute conversation one day about random fishing things. (7&woodbine)

On that note I have never returned anything

Never returned anything to lebaron

I feel as though they are tight lipped..... or so I thought until I went in asking float questions and this employee gave me a good thirty minutes of his time offering welcoming beginner advice when it came to float fishing. Others seem angry haha but when you ask where is what, I feel satisfied with the service.

One of my better outdoor stores, but mostly because its close to home and I know where everything is!

just buy something minor and cheap and try to return it and see how that process goes. if it leaves you with positive impression, buy something more expensive.
