The other morning I was trying to charge my battery for my fish finder, to no avail. Must be pooched, so I got a little creative. I have an 18v makita drill set, so i took one of the battery's from it and hooked it up to the finder, and surprisingly it worked. Ran for about 4 hours on one battery, don't know if this helps anyone but it sure helped me.

cool that would be good just to have in the gear charged as a backup just incase! I picked up a battery for my fish finder just the other day for 30$ at the local tackle shop (Natural Sports). I have the same drill set ill be sure to toss an extra battery in for the "just incase"

Fishfinders are all "12" volts, but mine will run on 10-17 (full charge on my gell cell ) Full charge on the drill battery is prob around 22v.

I've tried it on my old unit that wasn't sold with a battery, heavy as heck and ya, if it spills you're screwed, and they are not cheap!!

You can pick two 12v 7ah SLA batteries up on amazon for $28 and free shipping. Nice to have an extra for a spare or to power other stuff off it. I personally use one to power my sonar and use the other to power my lights, fan and phone charger!

Anyone think this will be harmful to my finder? They're 18v battery's. But it seems to run fine.

nice, you can pick up the 12v7ah from some canadian tire's for 25 bucks, I was having some issues with my stock battery not lasting on trips so I picked up a 12v12ah battery from Canadian tire. It doesnt fit in the battery slot in the portable case but it will fit in the case, downside is the thing cost 50 bucks but at least it has a lifetime warranty..

If your FF is 12V I think this will burn up your electronics if used for any length of time. I wonder how much charge was left on your drill battery? Maybe it was already down when you used it?

Check the voltage range on your FF. One of the ones I have is 10v-18v. A 12v battery actually has around 15v in it when fully charged.
