see now im confused, since you told me they need to be sparse, those don;t look sparse at all

You want a full body but not to use very much material so you don't hinder the movement, propping the marabou up with fox, dubbing, or polar chenille will make it look big in the water.

Use dubbing for the body and some hackle fibers for the tail. Tie it the exact same way and you will be surprised to see the difference.

i used rabbit dubbing with a marabou tail

Looks more like a pheasant tail to me, I'll post some pics of a hares ear today.
