Need some info on the East trib whirlpool (hopefully you know what I am talking about) Just mostly where to park and head down. And to know what they are hitting this time of year on spinning gear. Spoons? Roe? PM me please.
 
if im assuming correctly on what trib you mean, id use small spinners, white or chrome, or spoons white or chrome

Google map the area, you will see a parking lot atop of the "whirly" ;) there is a path way down from there. Be careful it could be very hairy this time of year. If we are talking the same area.
 
ahhhh,,,, i think ive seen this one, never fished it though, i kinda just droped by there after fishing like 3 tribs within a day, and i never saw a clear path down either that time, maybe its just too dark and im unfamiliar with the area,
 
Okay well i got conditions. But no idea what the banks are like. dont want to get there and find out its super unsafe. The water is super clear and ice free.
 
Parking lot ---> walk right 100 ft ---> trail down. If u find another way down, call 911 in advance. And pace yourself on the way back up, it isnt terribly easy and for anyone not in shape they could get stuck.

It looks to be a thick ice shelf/snow on the bank around it and extending out a few feet over water. I might be down this weekend, shouldnt be too bad
 
If your going to the whirlpool make sure you use the wooden stairs.. Theres two main parking lots for getting down there, one is a larger parking lot that has steel stairs, thats for the glen area more so.. the wooden stairs parking lot is a smaller lot, and that heads basically straight down to the whirlpool. The trail has changed this year with a couple landslides and the weather, so be careful. Did it the other day in the dark it was a nightmare lol so wait for daylight or bring a good flashlight..
Also there are some major ice shelves there, so pick your spots wisely.. Especially with the up and down weather conditions.

The pool is not as dangerous as people make it out to be. Just use some common sense. You'll see where you can stand and where you can't. You other option is to fish the Glen. Which is a stretch of river just down river from the pool. There is a separate set of stairs for the glen (few kms down road from the pool parking).

Check with Cast Adventures on Twitter for daily Niagara conditions, it will save you the trip.

I'm sure most of the ice on the banks is melted right now but here is what it looked like back in February:

the whirlpool definitely is dangerous, if you slipped off that ice chunk into that water and gasped a lung full of water which you would, without a survival suit to keep your head up you'd likely drown as you may not get your strength back for 2-3 minutes in which case you may be heading down river… you can't predict to how your going to react to the cold water, every one is different. i know two BOQ fisherman that have fell through the ice, one said it was horrific he couldn't breath panic'd and bearly got out. The other one didnt think much of it at all and has went through a couple times since and it has yet to phase him.

Is this spot a lot safer in the spring time? Im not sure which spot you're talking about

It is safer in the spring and summer. It is the whirlpool in the Niagara river. But the water is VERY dangerous all the time.
 
Watch your footing - the pool is a dangerous place. Couple weeks back fresh snow covered the icy dicey steps and I found it easier to go down on my rear end than walk...picked up speed pretty quickly :lol:

Now that all this has been said and done. Is this post an exception to the rules of the Steelhead and Salmon Fishing section? Or is it allowed to name and give details on specific spots on rivers as long as the name of the river is not used?
I'm not trying to come down on anyone, but some people (especially newer members) would get such a bashing for asking a question related to specific spots.
This isn't the only post that's referring to this spot. It has been done by other members and gone unnoticed by some, and ignored by others.

The answer to the post could have been given via pm. Just my opinion.
