As another new member, posts like this do not welcome people at all

As a bit of background, I have been fishing steelhead and salmon in every trib from Bronte to Shelter Valley for 35 years and came where in hopes of finding a forum to share my experience and to also gain some new techniques I may try and benefit from. This is the second time I have posted about snide remarks towards new members questions. It leaves me wondering if it is even worth the effort to participate in these posts as it seems like an exclusive club for the chosen few.

To the original poster......I am in the east and all the creeks are high and muddy out here and will more than likely be like that through the weekend. I can give you an update on Friday if you wish

Definitely ! Passed through driving an east tribe today and actually saw the water level pass the bridge (mind you low bridge for pedestrians but still!)

I agree with you JDean.

 

I am also a new member but not new to fishing at all and I have run into a lot of this.

 

That said, there are also plenty of members who are willing to help. You just have to get to know who's who.

 

I hope you decide to stay, based on your experience it sounds like you would have much to offer.

JD, I hear ya about other snarky remarks but honestly, I dont see what was so wrong with what steelhead101 said.  I really dont think its outrageous to expect a new member to be involved before getting any handouts.   I was once a new member too, and it took a couple months before I made friends who were willing to help.  Before that, I spent hours on foot looking for sites to fish.

So, FisherGirl, what you are saying is, unless I or other new members participate and post up our information you are not willing to post information back to us because we have not contributed enough?   Seems a bit like a clique to me.  What constitutes enough of a contribution to deserve an answer to a question?

 

So, just so I understand, I am to post up all my tips and techniques and areas I fish and catches in order to get an answer back on whether or not an east or west trib is blown or fishable.  I will jump right on that.

Contributing doesnt mean posting all of your techniques. 

 

I have made over 300 posts on this forum and I can tell you that a sliver of those are tips or techniques.  What I meant was, be involved in discussion-exactly like youre doing right now.  Post your opinions and 2 cents.  Eventually the new members will no longer be trollers but instead a recognized member of our "community", not clique.  This isnt highschool, Deaner!  There are plenty of new members who dont feel the way you do - just look around, you'll see them...because they contribute.

The members want to know that the new members are going to help others as well as ask for help . They want to see givers and takers not just a bunch of takers .. Some people are willing to help any one learn because we give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they will contribute as you learn what your doing but others don't .. They expect you to prove your self first

I appreciate the comments and help everyone, thank you. Though I don't see how some fishing newbies (like myself) would be able to contribute to these forums if we are just starting to learn. I'd love to give tips and help to others if I had any lol. I've been fishing recreationally for a few years and looking to explore some more now. I'm used to fishing off docks at cottages mostly and am looking to get more into the sport, i'd love to learn more about river fishing and hopefully one day I can share some information with all of you.

We all have been a new member once. And it's normal to expect someone to hand you out a nice pool (very rare tho) filled with steelies. I wouldn't hold it against the guy who shares his pool. I do as well. Even before I became a member I do my own personal recon on some spots and upto now still hold those spots dear. Although I do try to invite people around the area if they want to try it. with or without me. But all this shouldn't be discussed in an open forum. Make some friends and share spots, techniques via pm. I don't log in as much as I do. But this forum has helped me with fishing getting banned is not an option...tight lines.
