I was at Bayfront park and carp barrier at princess point today in (Hamilton , on)and the water temperature has a small thin layers of ice scattered around shore . So unfortunate, all that rain we received last week wasn't enough to melt all the ice but its getting close. Some of the swans were pretty territorial out there as well so beware all fisherman. I will be updating this report some time at the end of the month so I will keep yah posted.

Morning all! I was down at bayfront yesterday around noon and everything is open there now, as well as the carp barrier and princess point. It was my first time ever checking out the barrier, there is a strong current there that took some getting used to. I pulled out a couple smaller carp and catfish, and twice had something big on that was pulling drag like crazy but came off both times. Needless to say it's just great being able to fish open water again!

Yes. I read somewhere on-line that there is normally something like 20,000 Carp in that canal at any one time.
Of course everything you read on-line is true LOL. But it is interesting to take a trip out to the Carp barrier when they are doing the fish lifts. If you contact the RBG they will give you times and days. All Carp are returned to the harbor side, but I have seen some huge ones that could spool you if not prepared.
I'm spending this week-end getting a lot of stuff done so I can get down there next week-end and get my line wet for the first time this year.

water levels at bayfront park last year were flush with huge boulders they have on shore when I was there the second levels of boulders were completely exposed meter and half lower ... water levels could be higher at other points but I imagine they would the same

Ya I was passing by Caledonia yesterday and the river is the highest I've ever seen it. There was even a trailer park that was partially underwater
Lol. That is normal, I have worked at that trailer park.
The Grand had some of its highest levels in years last year. Remember all the rain last spring?

I was down there yesterday afternoon, it was beautiful T shirt weather. All the fish must have taken the Monday off for an extra long weekend though, my buddy caught one smaller catfish in three hours while drowning worms and I didn't even get a whiff. There is a perch derby going on there May 4th, anyone else planning on trying their luck with that? $10 entry and $1000 for biggest perch

Was out again yesterday for a few hours in the afternoon, starting to see a lot more activity in the water, lots of carp rolling over on the top. Set up some Zoom Carp corn on the bottom and did get a couple bites, but never set the hook on anything. Still, a great day to be out by the water, beats sitting on the couch! I've been going during the middle of the day, 1-4pm hoping to get out this weekend either early in the morning or in the evening work permitting and find them more active.
