Went out today to try my luck on some trout with my boy.  Haven't really done much creek fishing since I was little.  I'm having no luck at all and I'm really just not getting how to setup my rig.  Anyone have a decent "beginner" resource on creek fishing?

just keep adjusting the depth of line under your float to get your bait down, make sure enough split shot on keep it down without submerging your float, and adjust your leader size according with water clarity, start with 8#, if you see fish moving, out of the way, go to 6.8, if they're still moving out of the way go to 4.4

Shaner, don't write yourself off yet.  My local creek was only 43F today and only two chubs and a longnose sucker in the net.  Still a bit cold yet for any significant activity.  Once your creek warms up a bit, you'll notice the bite picking up too.

Shaner - right now a trusty rig that will work is a simple float with a worm hung under it.  This will work for all trout species - if the trout are small just use pieces of worm.  Spinners and spoons work well.  If the water is clear focus on pools and around large boulders or wood.  Also, keep a stealthy approach especially on small streams and clear water - if you spook a fish ( which could spook the others ) it wont come out of hiding for some time.

How were you fishing for them?  If you are more specific about your setup and how you fished for them we can diagnose the problems ( if any ) in order for you to get hooked up :)

There's a lot of ways to fish for trout. I'd like to know how your setup is and see if we can tweak some adjustments. But the simplest way to fish for trout is to fish them with tiny spinners. size 0 - 2, dressed (to hide the hook). I would suggest a blue fox vibrax, get rid of the treble and replace with single siwash. but my most productive spinner is a silver panther martin size 2.

Me: Size 1 Black Fury Mepps with a trout worm, cast past fish/hole and retrieve through.  Maybe I'm spooking them.

Son: Bobber bit of line, weight to fight current, bit more line, single hook with trout worm.

SHANER, we might have been fishing the same trib. I was way up north, it's a bit of a hike but it's the mecca of trout fishing. lots of people, lots of kids but you can always find a nice pool. Saturday I was fishing all by myself on a very small pool under a log. while the rest are in a very deep big pool. in the first 30 minutes. my pool was burning. hooked 7. landed 2. don't forget your polarized glasses. I usually distant myself from the water. maybe 3 feet. and the next thing i know is that i'm sharing the pool with 5 more anglers....lol...that's the opener i know.

Shaner - it seems as if you got the right idea - qute possibly were fishing a pool that was fished hard not long after you were there.  Once a pool has been touched and all the 'player' fsh have been caught its possible they all shut down - not saying you wont catch fish but the chances decrease drastically.  Good to run flourocarbon leaders as FF mentioned a few posts earlier.  Keep pluggin' away brother - you're on the right track.
