Out of all the fish the snap my IM8...I never would have thought it would be this one. Also JUST before I was about to pick it up. Oh and I also lost the fish....and the rod snapped 2 more times on hook ups after I continued to use it....bad, bad day.

Lol @ my GF who got me the rod as a B-day present last year taking the video on her phone. (She also got me the extended warranty....smart girl)

i know the feeling all too well.....

on a side note though, looks like you're highsticking the fish too much and putting too much pressure on the tip of the rod, tends to happen when people are trying to land fish solo, easiest way is just back up on the bank

i was gonna say the amount of energy the fish was excerting, it didnt seem ready to be banked yet. that with the high sticking and horsing it in probably overdid it a bit bud

cool video still, your reaction to the break fully made me laugh  :)

Oh there's a video lmao

"Oh! How the fack did it do that?!"

Yeah don't high stick that much. Especially with a 14'. Way too much for the rod to handle what is that? Med ultra light? Or med light?

haha yeah I will try and take it easy with the pressure I put on the rod next time. I thought these rods are beasts though, I mean I landed 30-35lb salmon all day no problem. I guess no more of that :P

Just no more crazy high sticking lol. especially when that fish runs into current, makes the fish feel a lot heaver then it is.

My condolences :P

BTW I saw you yesterday at that river, I was fishing with my buddy, he's a short little guy, we were both using centerpins.

Funny enough, when I saw you I thought, man that looks a lot like fishing89 on OFF.

the rods can handle the weight no issues there, its how the weight is distributed along the blank that matters, and that falls under angler control.  you want a nice long smooth arc.

Nothing wrong with trying to horse a fish on, but like everyone else has said, don't high stick it so much. If you're going to try and horse it, lower the rod a little to help distribute the weight properly.

That sucks lol. I wouldn't go blaming the high sticking right away though, I bend my rods all sorts of ways that I shouldn't when fighting a fish and any time I have broken a rod has been due to a nick or something in the blank. I would sooner look to the last time you set your rod into a tree as the likely culprit here.

The best line was when you said "this is by the mouth too though" as if you were surprised.

RIP Raven rod! LOL but yeah, like a lot of people have already said, the break was probably due to a nick in the blank but most likely just noob-handling of the rod.  Don't worry, happens to a lot of us (only once for the bright ones though LOL).  I use to go crazy with the high sticking before I broke my first Shimano centerpin rod.  Now I got my raven too and am way more careful with it.

@Chunk - I noticed that too... smh...

If you are surprised it is hooked in the mouth you are probably not fishing properly.. uhh.. meant ethically. Or in the right spots.

the "by the mouth" comment was because i lost a few fish prior due to foul hooking at a stacked pool, so finally I was happy that when the float went down, it was finally legit.

Im sure the break was due to a nick or crack in the blank, I've handled this rod much much rougher in the past on MUCH bigger fish and was fine. I'll be taking it to BP this weekend though
