I use a 12' carp rod.

 

Basically any medium/heavy type rod of any length will land a carp, but for myself personally, 90% of consistent carp catching is in all in the cast. -not your rigs, line, bait or any of that.

 

If you are just blindly casting into nothing with no technique, you will catch LESS carp i promise

 

There is ALOT involved in casting for carp. And it usually starts with how big your rod is. lol

I know you mentioned floro leaders earlier in this thread. What lb leads do you normally run?

I would like to use my 15' float rod for carp but I won't run leaders over 12lbs on it.

But for carp I use Kordas Supernatural 25lb braid for my leader onto 15lb mono main.

 

You dont really have to worry so much about abrasion resistance with carp, as long as your playing them properly.

 

You can use even 10 pound fluoro if you want. Just dont be too eager to land it too quickly...just let him come to you, and only retrieve during a pause. Carp are tanks. lol plain and simple. The whole "tire him out and die" thing hardly applies to carp. Just ask any UK carp enthusiast.

 

I normally use fluoro on chod or helicopter rigs because its stiffer than braid, but since I usually use pva I typically use braid.

Yup, alot of carp tackle suppliers offer ready-tied rigs. You can also check ebay, (just type "ready tied carps rigs")

 

But this particular one is very fancy Def have to improvise on this one

Np man, you should be more than fine with that setup.

 

As for being line shy..................

 

Different people will say different things, but for me, personally, I believe there will always be one or two carp that will bite anything, regardless of the presentation...

 

BUT... that other 98% of the carp lurking around your swim might just know that something is not quite right with your rig for the conditions, and despite staying interested in it, they may just simply avoid it in the end..

 

Thats just me though. But I personally believe that carp are %100 line shy.  Dont take my word for it. I'm just throwing it out there. If you want to listen then fine, if you dont, then np

 

Its pretty much all about the conditions though... you want to use the right rig for your conditions.

 

General rule for me is: Stiffer rigs in choppy waters with silty/weedy lakebeds , and supple rigs in calmer waters with smoother/ gravely lakebeds.

 

Take it or leave it!

PVA stands for poly-vinyl-alcohol. Its a substance that completely dissolves in freshwater

The putty is just more weight to keep the hooklink pinned to the bottom, but it this instance it not only provides weight, it will also provide a quicker drop into the carps bottom lip at the time they suck it up. The thing attached to the hook is called a pop-up. (They come in foam, boilies, corn kernals, etc) And they are buoyant, so once your rig hits the bottom after a cast - they literally pop up, and stand proud of the very bottom, right in striking zone of a hungry carp.

 

@pump there are a few things going on there.

 

The actual connection is called a quick screw, its a tiny screw screwed into the pop-up/boilie with a quick release loop at the end that attaches to a small ring on the hook. There are also two small stopper rings -or small silicone sleeves, on the hook to keep it from sliding off.
