I carry either my Leatherman multi tool or a 3" crkt folder. The multi tool doesn't draw near as much attention as a fixed blade Edit: the folder is a crkt urban shark and the multi toll is a leathermann wave

can you carry in your pocket a small folding knife on your key chain? or is that considered a concealed weapon? small i mean like

http://www.canadiant...ml#.U3eiyfldXCs

like a blade no more than 3inch.

i have a friend that carries it on him. similar to this one, but is that illigal to carry a knife like that. just for every day use?

One thing I cant stress enough is don't cheap out on a blade. You always want a good well built knife that will hold a edge after long use.

And wat kit said don't go cheap. I'd go 30-40 dollars minimum. Like mentioned before Cheap knives won't hold an edge...will rust fast and the blade wont stay firm in between the handle(blade play). I find Canadian tire expensive for knives. If u can order online

I've been carrying this knife around a lot lately.

Called the Kabar TDI Defence knife. It is designed to be a back up knife for law enforcement or military if their primary weapon system can't be accessed. Hence the curved handle fits in the hand great. I added pieces of bike inter tube to the handle for more grip. A trick a military friend told me about.

I know this is an older thread, but it should be stated since there seems to be some confusion. According to the Canadian criminal code, you are allowed to carry any fixed blade, or folding knife as long with a blade under 9" (no official length is mention in the criminal code, but this is what cops look for) as long as it is in plain view, in no way concealed on your person, and for the purpose of being a tool. In other words, if a cop asks you about your knife, it is never for anything other than work purposes, if you state that it is for self defence or any other means which it may be intentionally used to cause bodily harm to another individual, you will be arrested on the spot. The law regards intent of use more important than most other things.

That being said, you MAY NOT possess any of the following:

2. Any instrument or device commonly known as “nunchaku”, being hard non-flexible sticks, clubs, pipes, or rods linked by a length or lengths of rope, cord, wire or chain, and any similar instrument or device.
3. Any instrument or device commonly known as “shuriken”, being a hard non-flexible plate having three or more radiating points with one or more sharp edges in the shape of a polygon, trefoil, cross, star, diamond or other geometrical shape, and any similar instrument or device.
4. Any instrument or device commonly known as “manrikigusari” or “kusari”, being hexagonal or other geometrically shaped hard weights or hand grips linked by a length or lengths of rope, cord, wire or chain, and any similar instrument or device.
5. Any finger ring that has one or more blades or sharp objects that are capable of being projected from the surface of the ring.
6. Any device that is designed to be capable of injuring, immobilizing or incapacitating a person or an animal by discharging an electrical charge produced by means of the amplification or accumulation of the electrical current generated by a battery, where the device is designed or altered so that the electrical charge may be discharged when the device is of a length of less than 480 mm, and any similar device.

8. The device known as the “Constant Companion”, being a belt containing a blade capable of being withdrawn from the belt, with the buckle of the belt forming a handle for the blade, and any similar device.
9. Any knife commonly known as a “push-dagger” that is designed in such a fashion that the handle is placed perpendicular to the main cutting edge of the blade and any other similar device other than the aboriginal “ulu” knife.
10. Any device having a length of less than 30 cm and resembling an innocuous object but designed to conceal a knife or blade, including the device commonly known as the “knife-comb”, being a comb with the handle of the comb forming a handle for the knife, and any similar device.
11. The device commonly known as a “Spiked Wristband”, being a wristband to which a spike or blade is affixed, and any similar device.
12. The device commonly known as “Yaqua Blowgun”, being a tube or pipe designed for the purpose of shooting arrows or darts by the breath, and any similar device.
13. The device commonly known as a “Kiyoga Baton” or “Steel Cobra” and any similar device consisting of a manually triggered telescoping spring-loaded steel whip terminated in a heavy calibre striking tip.
14. The device commonly known as a “Morning Star” and any similar device consisting of a ball of metal or other heavy material, studded with spikes and connected to a handle by a length of chain, rope or other flexible material.
15. The device known as “Brass Knuckles” and any similar device consisting of a band of metal with one or more finger holes designed to fit over the fingers of the hand.

Maybe I'll make this it's own thread....

Anyways!

I have Gil Hibben 8 1/2" Triple set Throwing knives
Rapala Chromaluminium Bruck Knife
Columbia River Knife & Tool Synergist Boot knife
Columbia River Knife & Tool RMJ Woods Chogan Tomahawk Axe With Hammer

Plus a couple handfuls of other miscellaneous knives.

I carry a small folding knife in my pocket every single day, everywhere I go.  I just clip it on my pocket so that the clip shows outward and the knife is in my pocket, guessing that is good enough for non concealment , never had a problem with it.  I find people these days have become real panzies when it comes to knives and guns.  Everyone is so afraid when they see someone carrying a knife or gun, not sure what the big deal is. When our parents were kids, it was acceptable to walk down the street with a rifle over your shoulder.  Nowadays you would be shot on sight by a swat team for something like that, no questions asked, just boom dead.  Weve really become pussies when it comes to this.  People need to just chill the Eff out.

The knife I carry on the daily is a gerber "bear grylls" folder, cheap, good blade, perfect for everyday things, like opening boxes , mail, beers, cutting fishing line, tags off of new clothing, etc, and good enough for cleaning small game or fish when nothing better is available .   Im in the market for some better knives tho. Looking for a nice fixed blade.

Just to avoid bitching or confusion from other people, My earlier post with that list is copied directly from the Canadian Criminal Code.

Does nobody carry Swiss Army knives anymore? LOL

I keep my butterfly knife in my tackle box... Don't know how legal it is though.

"S. 84(1) Prohibited Weapons:
 (a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife"

If it's an actual Butterfly Knife, otherwise known as a Balisong, then no, it is Illegal and you'll get charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon, and problably a couple other things  like carrying a concealed weapon. Balisongs (Butterfly Knives) falls under the "Centrifugal force" part of the crinimal code concerning the opening mechanisms of knives. On the other hand, if it is the BRAND Butterfly, then no, it's not Illegal.

Lol, I do have a Swiss Army Knife, but it was my grandfathers so I dont use it, it sits in my toolbox. The locking mechanism is loose on it too. I think the Leatherman Multi-tool products have pretty much phased out the Swiss Army brand.

so this http://3.bp.blogspot...ife-Buckle2.jpg

but now im confused. what about scherades new M.A.G.I.C assisted knife? http://taylorbrandsl...uminum-handle-4

is that considered illigal? or grey area?

The Belt knife is absolutely illegal Dusty, it's considered a concealed weapon, with the express purpose of injuring another person.

The second knife is KIND of a grey area, but because they advertise it as "assisted" I would say in the eyes of the cops, it probably falls on the side of illegal. Depends on the cop and the mood they're in. Columbia River Knife and Tool makes a lot of knives that they don't CALL assisted opening, but  pretty much are because of the mechanism designed to open it. They're great knives, but they too fall in a grey area. Legal in the states where they're made.... not so much here.

Basic Rule Of Thumb; if you can open the knife easily with one finger or a thumb whether by pushing a button or fliping a protruding nub, or with the flick of your wrist, it's probably illegal. It may not be expressly illegal but as I said, whether you eat poop depends on the cop and his/her mood that day. See my comment to Default_User for the actual wording from the CCC.
