Yeah I was thinking of this too. Flattening barbs. way easier to release fish. And does not cause carnage on their mouth. As long as you keep tension on your line highly doubt they will come off.

Pinch down the barbs on your jigs and. ore snags can be shaken free. I have recently been trout fishing barbless and have begun to pinch down or remove all the barbs on my lures, it makes releasing fish much easier and I doubt I'm loosing any more fish than usual.
Thoughts ? Opinions ?

I second this I always pinch my barb , super easy releases and less damage trying to gey it out. Also lets me get my line back in the water quicker. Havnt lost too many fish and ive caught some decent lunkers.

I was fishing with my grandpa and he had a scale.

The only reason why I didn't weigh it was because I knew my grandpa would want to keep it.

When he wasn't looking, I quickly released it.

Haha...sorry grandpa.

I'll be fishing the tri-lakes opener tourney next weekend. I'm really looking forward to fishing for bass again. I was on all three lakes last weekend and from what I seen the spawn is pretty much over. Seen no bass on beds.. Lots still in shallow.. Water temp 69-75ish last Saturday

How many of you guys catch and keep bass?

I don't usually eat fish unless its tilapia.

I wanna try pike, walleye, crappie, perch and big slabs of sunfish this year.

Usually don't keep bass but on the rare occasion I will. I release most of my fish but I'll sometimes keep walleye perch and pike, usually when I'm icefishing

Not big on keeping my catch as well. And in general not a big fan of fish unless it's halibut on batter w/ side fries a.k.a. fish and chips. I did took home a bunch of crappie once and my mom cooked it in soy sauce & vinegar(it's a filipino way) and said she loved it. Tilapia I love 'em on grill. And eating them with bare hands....lol

Not keen on keeping bass.  Not that they taste bad, they just don't taste great. IMO

Pike on the other hand, if it is a good eating size, it may end up in the frying pan, dredged in seasoned flour.  Very clean tasting fish.  When the fillets are golden brown, the flesh swells, becomes tender, flaky and melt-in-the-mouth.
