Did a ton of fishing back in my teens in northern Ontario and I'm dying to get back into it!

 

I'm not familiar with the area and wondered if anyone could suggest some good shore fishing spots in the Burlington area...happy to drive up to an hour'ish.

burlington itself has practically nothing. all storm ponds that i know of are fenced off or marked by signs saying no fishing. this is the same for oakville.

 

there is grindstone creek. check the map for the name of the park. i can't remember. you can walk along and look for spots to fish it.

 

for shore fishing at lakes you'll have to go up into milton and hamilton area like valens and mountsberg but as usual, it's better with a boat. plus you have to pay to enter.

 

going more than half an hour you have more options with proper lakes.

 

you can also try the rivers in oakville at the mouth this time of the year and cross your fingers. and hamilton has some options for carp and also some marina fishing for pike and bass.

I hear Bronte harbor pier has some potential.. I'm gonna try it out sometime this summer.. I'd be happy with a few perch or Drum though! lol.. Not looking for trophy salmon....  GTA needs a good fishing pier... It's a shame that we have all this prime fishable water on Lake Ontario with no really good access spots that hold fish .. All other Ontario cities like Hamilton, Kingston, Ottawa, are much more fisherman friendly and productive....

In fact, don't even bother with GTA!  Go straight to Hamilton! lol

I've heard that there some weedbeds infront of lasalle park which hold deacent pike and bass, however I havn't tried it

I mostly fish out of a canoe so I am not the greatest help.

 

If you take a 30 min drive or so up to mountsberg, you might be able to get your hands on some hammerhandle pike FROM SHORE ( maybe 1lb ) and even the largemouth bass from shore. I was fishing in our canoe last week with my uncle and he was throwing a little 1/8 OZ spinnerbait and he got a massive hit and instantly sliced through his 8lb braid

 

we then put leaders on and continued to catch ~15 pike between the 2 of us... one of mine being the biggest of the day at ~3-4lbs

 

The afromentioned storm drains around burlington/ontario are often filled with largemouth bass. There are the odd no fishing sign but if that doesn't keep you out there is fun to be had.

Go to Lasalle Marina,  Excellent LM , Pike, and Carp opportunities there.  Bronte pier, and bronte creek .

Like mentioned previously in this thread, Hamilton has some decent fishery. Underneath that "giant bridge" that connects Hamilton to Burlington, there is some good fishing.. Cast off the pier into Lake O for trout/salmon in the fall/spring.. Right now, casting on the pier that faces towards the Hamilton harbor you can catch white bass and massive sheepies (10lbs is common in this area); toss cleos, and I've recently also been also catching them on lipless rattlebaits (which is strange because sheepies aren't predator fish..). On this pier you can also catch trophy size carp (if you're into that). 

Oh, and watch for the stupid shithawks flying around there while you're casting.. I've seen people get hooked up on them by accident, and it didn't look like a fun time sorting it out.
