Open water vs a small body of water

Having fished both, I can tell you pier fishing is about the open water fight, the 100 yard dash, beaching the fish ect. Requires alot heavier gear (as far as I have used and seen people using) also the suspense of not knowing if there are fish around

River fishing is more about the technical battle, the fish could be feet from you when you hook and still take 15 minutes to get it in, also using alot lighter line (5-8lbs) to catch a 20+lbs fish, its a rush. 99% sight fishing, you know the fish is there, just how to present ur bait and the right timing to set the hook.

To each their own, I respect both side of it as they both have their pros and cons.

Just like some people like basketball, some like golf. When a basketball fan makes a statement against golf, feathers get ruffled.

Thats right Ijay.

I don't get why people love fishing in the rivers for em. Why not fish for them from the pier where they're chrome fresh, fight like crazy and there's less loogans.

less loogans,  hrmmm,,  different breed of loogan at the piers, a more refined loogan, a loogan that is forced to pony up and buy that cleo instead of that weighted treble. Pretty much same poop, guys will strip hens  and toss the carcass on the pier, I see no difference loogan wise.  plus  its shoulder to shoulder out there when the fishing is hot, can t move downstream to escape the crowds on the pier,  the best spots get crammed with 20 dudes on 10' section of pier, LOL.  Cant even see your fish jumping out in the distance cuz its pitch black.

If you want fresh salmon, what you really need to do is get on a charter boat in the summer and do it right.

Personally I don't find the peace and solitude that I require from my fishing when standing on a concrete pier in the middle of the night with 100 other dudes.  I prefer to be surrounded by nature, trees and animals, when fishing.  I live THE RIVER LIFE!

To each his own though, I know quite a few guys that wont go near the rivers, only pier fishing. Bass and panfish the rest of the year.  Cant help but LOL at that,. but hey, we all have our preferences. People lol at me on a daily for targeting carp, so its a just a matter of preference

Good points, I guess I have never really experienced bushwacking on trout/salmon rivers. I have never been to an east trib and that sounds like where the bushwacking happens. I fish the west and south tribs and there are trails and you can't really get away from the crowds or to fish that haven't seen much bait. I guess that's why I much prefer piers, especially since I usually get there around 6 pm so I get a good spot 90% of the time.

Not my pic. Some guy on Facebook posting pics of his dirty boots and then pics of the fillets in the smoker. Gross, look at the white tails. Those fish are rotting, how can someone eat that. Blech

Last year was my first time trying to fish for salmon on the rivers and I saw so many people snag fish just like those that were practically dead  and then toss them into a garbage bag to take home lol It turned me off of fishing for them on major lake O tribs lol, trying to find somewhere where I don't have to watch s*** like that and just actually fish in peace (might be a longshot) lol

u need to fish far upstream for resident fish. or late fall whn the place gets cold. None of those guys u would see on the rivers.

If people can eat froglegs. alligator tails, snakes and other gross animal fleshes, they can surely eat half dead salmon looking like jumbies

You've obviously never had frog legs, snake or gator to be comparing it to half rotten Lake O salmon... I could care less what someone does with there catch as long as it was caught in an ethical way.
