I find the best roe to use is what ever is running at that time salmonoids will hit drifting row to eliminate scent and try to hide there spawn beds from predators (trout).

Exactly what BH said. Also, I heard that brown roe works well particularly well in the spring during chocolate milk conditions.

Do you guys have much luck using Salmon roe? I've heard from most that it isn't nearly as effective as Rainbow roe.

What fish are u targeting? When fish are spawning use that kind of roe, that's what the other fish are typically feeding on.
Fall browns use salmon
Fall rainbow use salmon or brown
Spring rainbow use rainbow.
Not saying other eggs won't wrk tho. For some reason the plastic ones wrk to hahaha

I pretty much use only salmon roe(unless i get a hatchery bow) and do really well with it. Don't really notice a difference 9 days out of 10 prefer scrape to loose too.

Thanks, and would getting roe from a Salmon far upstream be a waste, or is any roe good roe, as long as it isn't spoiled? Because the area I fish close to home is far upstream from the mouth of the river.

I get mine 80km up river. Don't be afraid to slit an already dead fish. Lots of good roe on the banks!

so often overlooked but very true. just plug the nose and get at it

If it.stinks dont bother. Just look for.freshly dead ones
