I snapped a fly rod right in the first ferrule by pulling on the blank while fighting a boot, what a waste of a rod... good thing warranty covered it. Single hand fly rods are the worst for fighting huge fish. no leverage with the cork where it is. Thats why some salt rods have a fighting grip higher up the blank for fighting big game.
Best bet with the float rod is to move your reel down, if you can, when targeting massive fish. make some room for your free hand to grab the top of the cork when you feel the need for extra leverage. My float rod has a fixed reel seat and its only 4-5" from the top of the cork, sucks a bit imo
Check the bend in the blank where the first ferrule is. I grabbed right there when fighting a boot, SNAP!
