Hi everyone. Recently I've gotten into tying flies, mainly egg sucking leech and wooly bugger. Had some great success during 2014 opening, but then again, I think i could have fished with a bottle cap and had fun. So with the fall fishing ahead, want to hear from anyone who does float flies. Also, anyone find yarn balls work? They appear to be a no brainer but I havent tied any yet. Im going to Bass Pro in the morning. Hope to post some pic this fall. TIA

Float, what does that setup look like with the yarn balls and row bags? Can't picture it at all.
JYPD, Chris K told me about a Nuke Egg as well. They look just as simple to tie and would be a good variant as well.

Yarn balls are a deadly presentation for the next couple of months, think about a bead that fish can actually inhale. I run a tandem set up with yarn balls and a row bag, salmon egg eating bows will destroy it.
tandem...very good set up for bows....but they don't seem to work for salmon. bead and a fly can be killer as well.

for salmon I use a green glow bead and wooly combo. gets them everytime. murky waters. on clear water I just use a bead and roe.

Buggers are amazing period. Drifting roe tons and tons of times yesterday, with a bead, without a bead. Tie on a bugger and first drift landed a small steel.

I cant wait to drift with bead and fly. Going to popular west trib Friday, theyve likely been in there a week, any action will be great.

On the leader, 12 inches down, yarn ball. Tied to the yarn ball hook, another 12 inches of leader, and a hook and a roe bag. D-e-a-d-l-y

Would you mind snapping a pic of your setup next outting Float? I'd like to try a yarn ball setup, all I have tried is roe and pink worms so far.

i like to have my yarn eggs on the bottom of my rig, after my nymph/bugger to keep the egg floating ahead of the rest of the presentation freely. seems to work better for me that way

I think this it here. Just substitue the dry for the egg, and the nymph for the roe bag or bugger or whatever else you want to try.
