So last week I was out in the east and darn was there a lot of fish, but also a TON of people, managed to land of few in the chaos of "not knowing which fish is mine because everyone is hooked up" LOL, anyways I make my way out yesterday and to my disbelief there are more people than there are fish!!!! Like where'd they all go, ive never seen that happen before, granted there was a "new fish ladder" that was installed last year but I even tracked a fair distance upstream with no success... anyone got any ideas as to what could've happened?

if there was some rain or the waters not too low the fish probably pushed up. they can go a lot farther then one might think overnight if the waters not too low. just go to any trib where fish are running at night and you will hear if not see the increased activity.

if I'm right you were somewhere between oshawa and port hope   i used to fish there but not any more, too many snaggers and idiots, however it is cool on weekdays when theres not many people there, if you stay there as it gets darker, you will see fish moving from 1 pool to the next and by the hundreds, not just 1 movin here and there

I was at an East trib yesterday and boy oh boy did i saw fishes which i have never seen so much before. I literally saw 5 pools. Each pool has between 10-40 salmons. I saw 3 browns and 1 rainbow in between the pools. water clear and low. getting snagged to the salmon bodies everytime i cast near the browns. i left way early than i like but all in all a good outing and a sad one too.

Also. i saw alot of fishes already spawned out and died. not killed but died naturally. no guts spilled. natural death next to their redds. Advises for everyone. Please watch out for the redds when u walk the rivers. u dont want to squash the little ones.

Im sorry but the guys out there that fight the fish for like 2 hours on 6 LB test and then "release" them, I have no respect for them.... When the fish can no longer be revived they just toss it in and leave, catch and release only works for the already tired out salmon is if the fish is brought in as fast as possible and revived properly...

I actually agree with you...too many people get a charge out of landing a Salmon with 2-6lb test and it takes forever...for me..I feel undergunned at 10lb test. I like to land them and release as quickly as I can if I don't plan on keeping them.

100%  i can appreciate the challenge, but for the health of the fish no way.  when im fortunate enough to get a fish on, all my focus is to get the fish in with as little energy spent on the fishes part as possible.  

 

i hear stories of people using a 5wt fly rod for these fish, and here i am with my 8wt feeling a little over matched on the 30lb chinooks, i know the rod can handle it, but when you have $1000 in your hands, you tend not to test the limits lol

I only play fish if i plan on keeping them, thats where my 6wt comes in lol, (works for seel) if i plan to c&r its 12lb main 10lb leader max fight is 5 minutes usually, if i cant revive the fish is going on the dinner table , no sense in wasting it

i would disagree with u on this one buddy. where i saw these fish its a forbidden area to fish.i cant say where on here but i looked at them closely. both male and female fish was in the same pool.

yep. that true buddy. because of this reason i wouldnt fish much yesterday on the East trib. too much salmon which i dont keep.

even still, the lactic acids that build up in the fish from an extended fight will affect the taste of the fish

99% of the time i give the fish to my grandpa who doesn't mind, he gets the fish and i get some roe bags, win win imo

Most of the time i give friends and family too.i keep fish from lake Huron. I never fished Gb yet.
