I fished a 10mm the last few weeks for chinnys and had the diddlers (troutlings 6-8inch b@stards) absolutely smashing it. I was running hook 1inch below bead. First of all, the bead is exactly the size of these guys mouths, dont know whats going on their head about how they are going to swallow it... but.. to the point... every single hook set (dozen+) were ALL clean in the jaw.
Beads + clean fishing for the win. It just works. I think you hit looganville once you get over the 2 inch range though. Personal opinion. I could be wrong but I think there is regulation from the ministry about having naked hooks (and the range a bead has to be to it for it to be a legit rig). Someone might want to pull this up.
And to OP and the guy about fly fishing... beads were introduced on the fly to replace fly eggs, yup. Here is a GREAT read on why beads > egg flies.
