Well, after a few days of wracking my brain, and some heartbreak, I ended up getting the Islander

I'm thinking of naming her Brook

Ok, so now what?  I need backing and line, I pressume.  Any advice?  What the hell is mono line?   Do I need floating line?  What about memory?   Any help would be appreciated!

Go to Fishheads website and get some backing and raven main line. Best mono I've ever seen zero memory and very little stretch. Great stuff.

Also don't get that reel wet, if you drop it in sand or dirt can really mess up the bearings on them. And you will hear and feel that horrible grinding noise.

I'll give you some advice. I just went out this past week for the first time with my pin. Don't get discouraged with the cast.

Btw for backing I got normal 17lbs mono line (monofilament) then for my main line raven 8lb HI viz yellow mono.

Not sure if the yellow would work with that colour scheme..

Thanks for the tips Paul.  LOL yes I hear learning to cast can be difficult but the way I use to cast my spinning reel is similar to the wallis, so hopefully I'll do alright.   I'll let you know lol.

I thought I read somewhere that siglon is better than mono??

As a noobie, here's my advice.

Put on 20lb Dacron backing.. i put on 100yrs, but i should've put 200yrds to fill it up more. Whatever, either way it doesn't matter.

I then put on 12lb Trilene. Why? Because it was cheap.. and i'm learning to cast and got about 7 birds nests on the first day and shyte happens. Don't go too heavy on main line.

I was going to put on Andy line on but Sail didn't have what i wanted so i didn't do it. Raven line was my next option, but it was high vis and i didn't want that so Trilene it was.

Answer from what i've seen, is "yes". Try also loosening up the pin just a tad and give it a shot. Pro Tip!! Put masking tape around whatever you're using to open the pin so you don't scuff it all up on the first day. :P

I was using a shimano spinnig reel.  It was cute, but no where near as sexy as this thing!
