My dad uses 8lb braid exclusively for float fishing. He uses it on a spinning reel, and gets great drifts with it because of the low diameter. It does absorb water though, so if freezes easily in cold temperatures.

The fireline crystal fused is great float line. I generally use the 10 pand 14lb tho
I agree only issue is line bedding. Being a fused line it does not soak up water.

After fighting a fish you need to waste one drift to clean up the bedding then your good to go.

It shouldn't be a problem.

Never had problems with 8lb fireline crystal. The only thing i noticed was you have to be easy on the pressure as there is almost no stretch. You will figure out after few lost fish Awesome line to use

Given that my thicker mono gets taken by the wind quite a bit and effects my drift, I think the finer diameter will probably only help you.

Thanks for the replies. I know that it will we fine for strength but will the small diameter of 8lb braid effect me negatively. Realized after I put it on that most people would go closer to 15 lb.
I recently switched to a higher diameter braid simply because the really thin stuff tangles so easily after missed hook sets that I just got fed up with having to untangle/re-tie so often...another solution is to not miss hook sets I guess

Been having the same problem with my hook sets and I'm using mono I'm gonna have to agree and start actually hooking up when they bite lol
