Western Fishing Advice

In August I am headed out to Vancouver for a wedding. Having never beek there, of course I will want to explore with some fishing. Here is the trip plan so far
- Fly to Calgary
- Explore the area between Calgary and Vancouver for a week, hopefully do some fishing. (Maybe a guided trip on the bow river?)
- after all that aboard the Alaskan Cruise Ship
-Stop in juneau and will book a fly in fly fishing trip (can't wait)
-Also making stops in Ketchikan and Skagway.
ANYWAYS, got some questions.
1) Where would be some good areas to stop along the way to vancouver to fish that is easily accessible? I will have my 5wt rod along with hip waders.
2) I have a day in each port (Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan) Juneau I have already looked after. I don't have enough money to blow on guides in each port and I'm in each port for a full day. Does anyone know if there is any decent fishing I can get to by foot from those towns?
3) I'm assuming the airport will give me trouble about bringing flies on the plane. Anyone had experience with this?
Thanks guys I'm extremely excited for the summer ahead! I'll get some great opportunities to fish some areas and for some fish that I have never had the chance to!

When in August are you heading out?
Late august is usually the best time to hit the Eastern Slope streams in the Alberta foothills. My favourite rivers for rainbow, cutthroat and bulltrout are the Highwood, Livingston and the Old Man and their tribs. Everyone talks about the legendary Bow but in my opinion it's pretty overrated. On the rivers I mentioned, you'll do well for rainbows and cutties with your 5 wt. and a hopper-dropper rig or indicator nymphing but it would help to bring something heavier in case you see a big bull trout chase a smaller fish you're fighting in...I'm super jealous you'll be out there that time of the year. PM me if you need more info...I just moved back to Ontario after 6 years in Calgary.

Oh, also as you head into B.C., I'm not going to talk about specific tribs or locations in this public space but if you're driving into B.C. through the Crowsnest pass in the south, the Crowsnest River and Elk River are definitely must visits. If you take Hwy. 1 west into B.C., the Simpson River near Radium is a very lightly pressured river with tons of cutthroat and HUGE bulls in the deeper holes. Last tip: Bring bear spray and brush up on your bear safety before venturing into the mountains. That's enough about the West Coast for an Ontario forum I suppose.
