El nino's gonna keep it nice and warm all winter this year. Or at least I hope so. I had my fill of ice fishing for a bit after back to back extreme cold winters.

What the captain said - what you want for ice fishing is La Nina.

itll be ideal icewise in february, if you want to avoid sketchy situations.
some lakes will be decent in jan but it can be scary still that early
i wouldnt say it will be a complete write off by any means. maybe just short

I'm just going to look for open water...too early to tell if this is a great season for ice fishing. Getting +17 in November might worry some people but that's really not an indicator until we see what January looks like.

All signs point to a "milder" winter...however I wouldn't get too worried and completely write it off yet. A shift in the winds and an extended temperature drop will harden everything up. With it being milder, I'm sure we will have to deal with more snow pack, and will have to be even more careful with checking the quality of the ice. When venturing out it is imperative to take precautions and make the effort to check with your local ice hut operators, tackle/bait shops and on local message boards for the most current up-to-date information. Always air on the side of caution and be prepared!

Well I know its only November, but I'm already starting to think about ice fishing. With these warm temperatures as of late I'm worried that this winter is going be a write off. Anybody heard anything differently?
It's terrifying!

It will not be like the last two winters, nor a write off. Come mid January I am confident even Simco will be fishable.
Check this out, with some luck (low wind and no snow), 2-3 days of -10 will give us 4-5" of ice - good for me

This is a good read too, if you know some basic engineering terms

Very funny weather here today that's for sure.
This would have been a nice warm day even for Christmas (the fourth Sat of April), and that's four months away!
