I've had a few from different brand. I consider myself and expert when it comes to fish finders. Understanding their capabilities at certain price point can be thought.

Right now Humminbird is the leader in fish finder innovation. With Raymarine Developping CHIRP technologies next in line.

What you need to know. These brands of fish finder are like the tele communication company in canada. They are all in bed together and set price point.

Humminbird Helix as a great price point under 1000$ hell the Helix 9 as autochart live!

I'm a firm believer in Humminbird. Other brands are great. But Warranty and customer service when you spend a 1000$ is important too.

I would suggest to buy your unit sooner then later. Price will go up with the canadian dollar being so low.

They all pretty much have a 1 year warranty. I have been running a Raymarine touch screen unit, and they offer a 2 year warranty that they extend to 3 if you register online: so far I'm pretty satisfied. Lowrance is coming out with a new Elite 7 in February. It is touch screen with down and side imaging and it looks like it will retail at about $1100. I would take a look at that, although the humminbird helix line looks pretty nice and I run a bird unit on the ice, and I'm satisfied with it also. So many choices, good luck!

Thanks, so here we go I fish lake trout and walleye in northern deep water lakes so I think a GPS plotter would be a must and a colour hi def screen would be nice with deep water capabilities ............ This is the one I was looking at so what do you think ???
