Spent 3 leisurely hours tying leaders for steel. Makes me wonder how many hours i wasted tying at the river.

Originally thats the way I would store them too but @balt0 has a much more efficient way to pack pre tied leaders.  Maybe he'll chime in....

Buy some tackle tamers at your local tackle store or Lindy leader holders at CT.

The Lindy's are good, I use those. Nothing wrong with the pipe insulation though, does the same thing.

to be honest, I stopped doing pre-tied rigs. takes me about 2 minutes to re-tie and it gives me time to read the water. plus doesn't give any hints i will be fishing the next day...i leave house in stealth....like "no one's awake yet" stealth...I fish 2-3 hours and by 9am i'm home and it's like i never left...

Yep gave up on em too. Most of the time just my hook breaks off so one knot and I'm back in

I usually don't shot my leader. That way you don't have to mess with shot if you pop a lead off.

I still use pipe insulation too. I can see myself going down the no pre-rig route. I use a rubber band for my beads so no need to cut and retie unless it's to change the line itself or the hook.

This is a picture Balt0 sent me of how he organizes his leaders

I use pipe insulation. I like that better than the flat one because there's less of a tendency to make a kink in the line.

I never pre-tie my leaders cause its the easiest part of the rig to tie.

I think I'm with Swing4Steel on this one. I don't shot my leaders for the same reason, and also it compromises some your leader's strength and may spook the fish depending on the clarity conditions

Sure thing.. there's a good picture of it here: http://www.canadianr...ca/needthebead/

I don't use the wire though. I just fish the line through the bead and pull the rubber band through. The wire seems better though as it doesn't kink the line.. but i haven't broken off a line at the bead because of how i do it.. so whatever works. It holds the bead quite well. And remember, not all rubber bands are made equal.. some are thicker and so you have options with the beads. Plus.. they're rubber bands.. cheap as hell.

Hopefully that is clear enough.. if not, let me know.
