Urban fisherman - Durham region

Basically a suburban fisherman in the Durham region. Believe it to be the fastest growing segment of fishing. Been doing it for just under a year.

A lot of garbage to deal with in some of the tributaries though.

Those Hanging black garbage bags(on the trees) , is that something new or just encouraging anglers to use them for their garbage?

Try Frenchmans Bay, I finally gave up trying to haul stuff out of there. It needs a truck and a load of people once a week.

I never noticed it was that bad down there? I go there a lot.

Depends where in Frenchman's...I don't see a lot where I fish.

my favorite is when I see 3/4 of a spool of line tangled up and intertwined with sticks, branches, leaves, rocks, garbage and used up roe bags...usually good for a hook and a few splitshots on the end :neutral:

I predominantly fish Ajax, and have been emailing Town Operations, telling them where old shopping carts and such are clogging up the creeks, that If when riding my bike around.

Saw a mattress in the water last night.

Hard to believe how much garbage there is though. I try to pick up what I can, as a lot of it is recyclables. The more we clean up, the better it will be. Optimist I suppose...

It's been better since they reworked the shoreline on the south side, there's now less access. But before then it was absolutely horrendous. And it wasn't just litter. There used to be a beaver lodge there, and some 'fishermen' would use the wood to build fires to stay warm in the winter, not caring that the beaver was getting exposed, at times I could look into the lodge and see it. I caught one idiot throwing things at a beaver when it was swimming by, and when I told him to stop he said "But it will eat all the fish!" Despite the fact that beaver do not eat fish (it's a myth), so what if they did? They have as much right to them as us. It took all my strength of will to not shove him face-first into the water. I rarely go down there now, it's almost embarrassing to be seen with a fishing rod among those clowns. And I can walk there!

Sad situation Dave.
If it were not for beavers I'd have no speck lake in Sundridge.
