I recently got the new inflatable fishing SUP from Rapala and I've been having a blast customizing it in preparation for its maiden voyage. All you kayakers and DIY'ers know what I'm talking about!

 

The cool thing about this SUP is that it is inflatable; everything I need fits in my trunk.  The board, seat, pump and paddle all fit into a bag that I can carry on my back, however, I am not the type to pack light for a fishing trip.  My plan is to rig it up at my car and use wheels to pull it to the water.  Once I get to the water, the wheels flip upside down and rest on the back of the board (secured with a bungee). 

 

Some things I've already added:

 

1. Stabilizers/"Outriggers" since I am a novice SUP fisherman and they were pretty cheap from Costco

2. Lowrance Elite 4x Chirp (DIY post coming soon)

3. Custom Cooler with rod holders, drink holder and a spot for my go pro pole (also a DIY project)

4. My latest project: a trolley! All that's left to do is add a little glue. This will help me get the SUP to the water, fully rigged from my car (I don't pack light). Total project cost about $50 but the satisfaction of making it myself is priceless!

 

Materials: 2 Wheels, 5 ft of 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe, 4 connector T's, 4 end caps, 1/2 inch threaded rod for the axle, 2 hex nuts, 2 wing nuts, 3/4 inch pipe insulation cut open and trimmed to size. I drilled two holes and added eyelet screws where I'll attach a bungee.

 

I made the trolley as low and as wide as possible for stability so that there's little chance of it tipping on uneven surfaces.

Feelin' like Mike Holmes over here!

Thanks! The seat works on it's own but I know what you mean. I added a cooler behind the seat, attached them together and then to the board. I can sit on either depending on what I'm doing!

The whole purpose of having a lockable cooler is if you flip you don't loose any gear. Keep no gear on the SUP. Good luck

Thanks Boss.  I am pretty sure I have it all figured out.  Done a lot of research over the last month!  Even got myself a wet suit so I dont have to wait for warm water.  I dont plan on flipping the sup (maybe falling off of it...) but I think I'll mcgiver some cooler locks. THanks for the tip.

HA!  More like the shallows of a local bay.  I want to make sure everything works and I am comfortable before I get on lady simcoe.

 

Funny you mention it......I was just thinking about making an anchor trolley today.  I decided to wait and see how I fare out on the water. Since there are grommet holes all over the SUP, I am assuming I can attach it to wherever I need it?  What do you think?

Luckily I still have some pictures on my phone. I attached the sonar using an existing threaded insert on the kayak. I mounted the head and the transducer to the plexiglass, the transducer is mounted using a scotty arm a bolt and some washers. The power line is run through a drain hole and the battery goes on the inside of the kayak. For the SUP i'm thinking you might be best just using a portable ice fishing setup and hanging the transducer over the side, if you want to be able to use the sonar while moving you will need some sort of fixed arm.

Thanks for the tips guys.  I finished my fish finder mount and was able to test it out this past weekend.  Caught a bunch of brookies , perch and one unidentifiable fish that looked like a salt water sheepshead. 

 

You'll notice that the battery and extra cables fit into the side section of my boat bag.  Theres a small rubber opening that is meant for headphones but I cut it a little wider and now I feed my cables through it.

 

I attach the mount to the bag and the bag to the board.  Its sturdy and flexible.  I couldn't be happier with it!
