Been a trout guy ever since i started fishing but id like to get into fishing the weeds for bass. I have my rod and reel but need some suggestions for baits/lures.

Weedless topwater, like Scum Frogs. Spinner baits will also rip through a lot of weeds without hanging up. Texas rigged plastic worms, or Carolina rigged. And like S4S said, braided line, I use 20lb. And while largemouth bass are often in weeds, they aren't always right in them, and smallmouth prefer open and rocky areas. So also carry a supply of things that you can use in open water, like poppers and other noisemakers. I love the Chug Bugs and Jitterbugs, because nothing beats seeing a topwater strike, it's the greatest thrill in fishing. But a great technique for smallmouth is a drop shot system, hard to beat. Google for those terms, and don't be afraid to ask us for more info.

Sight fishing open water, wacky rig a senko. very deadly. need o-rings so you can make it last. other than that, just get some popper flies.

Learn to Texas rig a senko and you'll have a lot of fun in the weeds
Also try carolina rigging a Fluke weedless... it's a perfect weedless soft plastic jerkbait

Bring a few different kind of plastics and try them all. Sometimes the fish prefer one over another. Rig them weedless. Also try topwater in morning/evening and crankbaits in open waters.
