i have a medium heavy rapala xrap rod with a bait caster with 6.2 ratio just wondering if it would be good what line and bait would also be good, thanks for the help.

Not really muskie gear, but will prob work. Use min 60# braid with 100# flouro leader. You will be workin that reel pretty hard with the bigger baits! Not sure what rod length you have, but 8' is ideal. Hope this helps...

i would never go out and target muskies on bass gear. Not saying that it cant handle a muskie but definitely wont be able to throw the big muskie lures. However unintentionally catching a muskie while bass fishing is more common than you would think.

You can get away with a 7'6" minimum 15-40lb Rod.
DO NOT Excede your recommended lure weight " Writen on your Rod"
Or you'll risk breaking your Rod !
StCroix make a reasonably priced Musky Rod,
Here is an example of what sizes are common for Musky Rods,

If building your own Casting Rod I highly recommend Spiral Wrapping your guides.

Spinning or Casting Reels work,
Minimum 15lb drag capability,
Casting Reels are the preference,
My preference is 100% American made !
Siegler, Star or lever drag Saltwater Conventional Reels.
Lightweight 12-14 oz Reels with 25+ lbs of Drag,
50lb braid 500+ yds Spool Capacity.

Avet Conventional Saltwater Reels are very good as well.
14-22lbs Drag Model Dependant.
These Reels don't have the Stupid Levelwind,
The weakest part of a Large Game Reel !
Minimum 40lb braid to 6' of 60lb Flourocarbon leader Terminated to
6", 60lb braided or titanium wire leader with ball bearing snap Swivel infront of the lure.
I prefer Ball Bearing Swivel with a Stainless Hyperwire Split Ring. (You'll need split ring pliers)
Either way they are easy to change lures.
I'd call this a light weight Musky setup & with some experience you can land the big one as well.
Fight the Fish with your Reels Drag,
Not your Rods Lack of Leverage !
