Another opportunity to sneak out fishing---kids went to a movie projection at Fifty Point, and I decided to try my luck at fifty point pond. Supposedly there is trout there, maybe bass too. I had no luck at all (tried crankbait, spinners, worm under float).. I spent only an hour or two, during this time none of the other fishermen seemed to catch anything. Have you had any luck there? What did you catch?

Was there twice last week - feels like its had tons of pressure there was zip. I hit all weedlines, lilypads, spinner, cranks, topwater, dropshot and not a nibble. kids were fishing with worms and catching litttle sunfish but I'm thinking its fished out. Its conversation which is supposed to be catch and release (except for the trout they release in spring you gotta keep those) but there are many times this summer I've seen people ignoring the rule and taking anything they can cook. I think thats what happened to the bass here. i won't go back.

Try fishing there in the spring once the pond opens and they re-stock it. Spinners, small spoons, worms or trout putty will all do the trick. I go there for a few quick fish for the bbq than that's it. Fishing for bass there is pretty much a waste of time but there are giant largemouth in there.... As a kid i used to catch nice smallmouth in there as well but i think the white buckets have taken them all.

I guess you're a white bucket as well for taking fishes from there.

He said he's keeping the trout. The one time I went there, the girl at the gate said 2 trout per person, and under no circumstances to catch & release, must keep the trout you catch.

I keep one fish a year out of there as I mentioned in the spring when they stock it.
"Fishes"? Is that what you have in your white bucket?

I have a white bucket that's full of fishes. Soon I'll have a stringer full of salmon. Next time you're on the river and you see all the white bucket people with fishes say it to their faces that you have a problem with them taking all sorts of fishes. Stop being a wuss and stop stereotyping people online. If you have a problem with people taking fishes of all sizes maybe you should stop and help educate them instead stereotyping. The ganny is a perfect example to help educate people.

First of all, thanks for chiming in on this topic. Bassman45 asked a question and I answered truthfully....the bass have been fished out of that pond. Or, would you like me to tell you that bass in that pond grow wings and eventually fly away and that's why there aren't many in there anymore?
I bet you do have a white bucket full of "fishes", and YOU are exactly part of the problem these days! Nothing wrong with keeping a fish every so often to eat as I mentioned but you just confirmed in your statement above that you are part of our declining fish populations(i.e. fifty point pond as stated above). I don't have a problem in telling people how I feel or the reality of the issue, especially if it's to their face. Some people get it, some people don't..... I couldn't imagine what my small lake at my cottage would produce if i kept every single thing that bit my hook.
Have a good day OriginalFive.

Hypothetically: let's say I'm out to a pond for a few hours after work. To get there, I drove 1 hour. I have luck with the bass today---the first two are each around 2lb. I keep them on a stringer attached to my canoe. I'll take them home in the evening and have a lovely dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids, who absolutely love it deep-fried with corn flour. Then I catch some more and let them go, because the first two are enough to feed us. I know I'll never take more than I'll eat the same day. I pull out the canoe and people look at me frowning when they see the two fish. What the hell! I spent a ton of money for all the gear. I left work early. I deprived my family of spending any time with me that day. I don't fish so often and when I do, I rarely catch anything. So now folks will be giving me the stink eye because I want to provide a tiny little happiness to my family in the evening?

Corasara, there is nothing wrong with that.

Technically you're the problem as well. You mentioned you take fishes home to eat so you are also the problem cause I don't see you going out there to put back into our fishery. Don't tell me that taking a fish here and there doesn't count cause you're STILL taking fish home to consume. There is a limit put in place and as long as people are within their limits then there's no problem. But if people are taking well over their limit then that's a totally different story. The last time I checked Fifty Point was a pay and take pond so why are you hating on people for taking fishes. If it bothers you that much that there is no fishes there then why not complain to the people who runs the place. Why not tell them to stock more fishes, put a size limit on what you can take and drop the limit on what you can take home. I don't think most people are willing to pay to just catch and release fishes. The conservation is making all the money here and yet you're complaining about people paying to keep fishes. You're just a sore "L0ser" that needs to get put in check with that kind of attitude. Let me ask you this. How come I don't hear you complaining about all those charter boats, people with boats limiting out each time they are out on the lake taking the fishes home. How about ice fishing when people are limiting out on perch, crappie, white fish, trout and etc. How come you're not complaining about those people? But yet you complain about Fifty Point pond that is stocked LOL go hide at your cottage with your little lake that doesn't belong to you.
I'll be fishing the salmon run with my stringer of dark salmon on, come say "Hi" to me and everyone else with fish. Have a nice day and hopefully you take action instead of stereotyping people online. Go make your Fifty Point pond great again. Cheers!

Originalfive, I think you missed the point and are taking offense of the use of the term 'whitebucket'. Not sure why, you've been a member of this forum for much longer than I have. I'll still post my piece, but please know that I am not attempting to bait you, but point out where I think things went weirdly hostile.
It sounds like you fish and keep within the limit. If that is true, what you put your keeper catch in is up to you, as long as you don't intend to release them again (others chime in if I'm wrong). If that's a white bucket, power to you. I use one at the cottage - they're great! I have two small kids who want to study fish. When we catch a small fish, we'll put it in the bucket (with water) and they can look at it for a few minutes before we release. I hope it is a lot better for the fish than holding it out of the water for a few minutes so they can look at it.
What people are upset about are people keeping fish that cannot be used for food. Why bother keeping them? It is illegal to transport fish from one body of water to another, illegal (I believe) to keep fish for aquariums, and it is illegal to allow fish to spoil. It is a stereotype that people who do this use white buckets, and as with any stereotype it isn't entirely true, but it is a very convenient shorthand. So when you read 'white bucket' on this forum it is generally understood that the person using said bucket intends to keep their entire catch, regardless of limits or suitability of the fish for consumption. The other question that comes up is whether these people have licences at all. Some do, and ignore the regs. Others don't, and may just need education.
Saying that Corsara doesn't do anything isn't fully true, I hope. I assume they have a licence. The fees from the licence are intended to support our fisheries. Whether that happens or not isn't Corsara's fault, but I can say that I have seen the result of work done between angler associations and the Ministry to greatly improve fish habitat, which has resulted in some wonderful days this summer.
The charter boat system is something I know nothing about. If it irritates you, get involved to help change things. Perhaps someone here can speak to it and enlighten us.
So there is my piece. Know that I joined this forum because I developed a deep respect for many of the members who see fishing as I do, exciting, challenging, and on occasion, very delicious. There seems to be, if not a consensus, at least a majority who feel that regs are regs, but they also need the human element of figuring out what is ethical and sustainable.

Couldn't agree with bhark more.
Corsara - I see one problem... If fifty point pond is stocked with trout for consumption and they recommend C&R for bass... maybe that is why everyone was looking at you funny?
If you insist that because you spent time and money to go fishing you deserve to keep something every time... with that logic why don't you just go to the grocery store? Ocean's sells bass.
I have watched the decline of a conservation area near me over the last dozen years. Used to pull out 3+ lb largemouth on the regular... now I'm lucky to get anything over a pound. The decline may have been contributed to by some white buckets but out of the hundreds of times I've been in the last 12 years I saw many more people walking out with 1 or 2 good sized bass than I did a white bucket full of fish.
You are well within your legal limit and within regulations but as bhark mentioned there is also the human element of determining what is ethical and sustainable. We all want to fish for years to come.

No problems there---I've been at Fifty Point only once, and didn't catch absolutely anything. My "hypothetical" scenario was inspired by events at another pond (Valens).

I think you are still missing the point. Someone asked about no bass in fifty point pond, I said the white buckets have taken them all. Period! To be honest, I don't care about fifty point and what they do, as mentioned above, someone asked about the bass in there and I provided them with an answer.... I never complained about fifty point once in any of my posts!
I will go hide at my cottage, far away from people like you. Tough guy calling people names over a computer...
Have a good weekend, hopefully you catch lots of fishes.
