Heard some rumours of fish being caught from the pier at my local tackle store so went and checked it out last night and chucked my fav spoon for a couple of hours with no love... There were a few other peeps trying too and didn't see any fish caught during my visit.
It has also been my experience that the east starts sooner than the west and this is most likely due to water temps and rain fall, however there could be other factors that I am not aware of.
Wether the run will be early or late this year is the $1mil question! I'll be watching the weather, winds and temps closely and of course trying my luck when I think the conditions provide a good chance.
Good luck and happy catching!

i messaged the tourism guys about 1-2 hours east of toronto, they said the ministry is expecting salmon in the rivers around mind september at this point, the waters are still too low and warm. so late august or so they will be staging in front of the rivers. this is what they expect but not what is definite.

I never realized salmon runs booked through tourist status.
One way trip no doubt.
I'm only joking.
Nice to see people's excitement on here.

the tourism guys were in talks with the ministry of natural resources and going by the current conditions, date, water temps, levels, vultures (which apparently appear 1 -2 weeks before the salmon), as well as current fishing reports in that area, they make an estimate. the variables that can affect the run include heavy rainfall and a cold spell of a couple days minimum. otherwise they are expecting as i said above.

Absolutely no vultures or Grizzlies even on my home river.
Guess I'll be waiting a little longer yet.

Was fishing an east trib last weekend for speckles and browns and the water was surprisingly cold for the lack of rain and high heat we have had. This was pretty high up in the system though. They will be here soon enough and then we can have some fun.

I'd say this heat they wouldn't make it far they would beach them selfs and die.
i dont think they die from that. they would simply look for pools drop offs and log jams. they wont die unless they have spawned.there had been a few spotted after the rain. hard to really go after them while there are only a few and bass are very active. i've drifted some salmon flies over the weekend and have been catching bass and small pikes.

It's best to be there no matter what....It could be hit or miss but i'd rather be out than contemplating whether I should've gone....
