So I went to the in-laws this weekend with plans to fish the Saugeen. I didn't have time so we just hit up a trib just down the road to try and get some bass.

On Saturday we had some luck floating worms and crayfish through pools but on Sunday no dice. So we started catching small chub and floating them downstream. Bingo!

For an hour or so straight we hit smallie after smallie in all different sizes. We even got a few decent pike.

Not sure if this is a thing or not, but I've never had as much fun catching big bass as I did on my light action float rod. What a blast feeling the rod bend in half.

Nice fish! I tried it this past summer, tons of fun when you can hook into them on the pin. I find it even works better than jigs or cranks sometimes.

That last one is a pig! Nicely done!

And yeah - in the Grand in the hot weather I find a more subtle approach like a well drifted worm can work when other more active methods aren't working.

Thanks fellas. It certainly was a good way to end the long weekend.

I gotta get myself a scale though. That's the second big bass I've gotten this year and I don't know how much either of them weighed. I'm no expert, but I'd say in the 4-5lb range.
Loads of fun on a float rod.
