Hey Guys,
Looking to hear where everyone stands on two key pin specs:
1) Ported back plate or solid back plate, or if it makes a difference to you and why.
2) Size. 5" spool, more or less, and why.
Thanks so much. That's it for now....
Cheers.

Solid or minimal porting. IMO looks nicer and easier to put it down without getting dirt in it.
I had a 4.75'' and now have a 4.5''. They both felt good. Tried a 5'' and it felt a bit big.
I'm excited...

I prefer a solid back plate because of the way I hold my set up and to also keep dirt out of it. I have pins from 4.5 to 5.125 and I prefer a 5 as the best size overall . Feels good and has good line retrieval rate.

5 inch has always felt right to me, and I dont have the biggest hands in the world. 4.75 is a nice tweener size though.
Solid backplate
Strong simple clicker system
Rounded palming rim , and finished rounded reel seats preferred
Love spool ports to see the line for aesthetic value but Im also a fan of tradition minimal port fly reels
I prefer a standard arbour to a large arbour
slightly tapered handles for less line wrap away from the edge of the spool preferred

Solid back plate here, keeps it clean easily and it's just my own preference
